“People have the right to register the license plate they want, even according to their date of birth.”

Speaking to the press on the sidelines of the Prime Minister's working group meeting with ministries and branches this morning, Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Son said that the warehouse of beautiful license plates will be made public for people to register. If two or more people register for this license plate, an auction will be held.

The floor price will be determined by a council consisting of members from the police, finance and justice sectors.

"The drafting of the regulations has been completed, we are just waiting for the Government Office to give final comments to report to the Prime Minister for implementation," said Mr. Son.

The Deputy Minister of Public Security also affirmed that the online auction is very public and transparent, meeting the needs of the people and creating a source of budget for the locality.

Regarding concerns that not allowing the transfer of beautiful license plates will reduce efficiency, Mr. Son affirmed that the license plate must go with the vehicle. Auctioning and then reselling, creating a business of license plates is not allowed. Therefore, the management agency does not allow the transfer of beautiful license plates.

“Selling a car is not selling the license plate. If you sell a car to someone in the same province or city, you must sell the car and the license plate. If you change provinces or cities, you must take back the license plate,” Mr. Son said.

In response to the question of whether people can buy license plates based on their date of birth or year of birth, Mr. Son said that people have the right to register the license plate they want. The management agency will review and publicize this license plate on the auction list.

“If two or more people register, an auction will be held. If only one person is interested, the management agency will consider granting the license plate to the person, at a higher fee than the regulations,” said Mr. Son.

According to the provisions of the draft "Project on granting car license plates through auction", 5 groups of auctioned license plates include: License plates with 5 identical digits, with the last 4 digits the same, with 3 identical digits, with the latter number being larger than the previous number - with progressive numbers, with any numbers chosen by people in need, different from the above 4 groups.
