Con Cuong people are no longer interested in paper raw materials?

(Baonghean)In recent years, acacia trees have become one of the main forestry trees in mountainous districts in greening barren hills and bringing relatively high economic value to farmers, including the mountainous district of Con Cuong. Remember the first year of implementing the paper material tree planting project with support from the State capital according to Decision 147/CP on a number of policies for developing production forests, farmers were provided with seedlings and fertilizers, so the acacia planting movement in Con Cuong took place vigorously. According to statistics of Con Cuong district, the area of newly planted acacia trees reached 2,000 hectares per year. People and leaders at all levels in Con Cuong had convincing grounds to believe that acacia trees could help alleviate hunger, reduce poverty and get rich because the paper factory had committed to purchasing at a price of 680,000 VND/ton. Thus, if 1 hectare of acacia after 5-6 years of age with a yield of 80 tons/ha, it could bring in an income of over 50 million VND. The acacia planting movement took place vigorously in the communes of Mau Duc, Chi Khe, Thach Ngan...
However, in 2012, the area of additional acacia trees planted showed signs of slowing down. According to statistics from the District Agriculture Department, last year the area of additional paper material trees planted was only about 750 hectares, including 140 hectares of meter trees. This fact shows that Con Cuong farmers are no longer interested in acacia trees, due to difficulties in output and low purchasing prices. Although there are still paper factories asking to purchase raw materials, the purchasing organization has not yet reached the people, so the price of paper material trees is being squeezed by traders. In fact, families who can afford to buy trucks often come to buy the whole acacia garden, then they hire workers to cut it down, peel the bark and transport it to the Nam Cam industrial park. Because of this way of buying and selling, many garden owners are not updated with the market price of acacia trees. Another reason why acacia trees are being forced down in price by traders is that in many acacia growing areas there are no roads to transport raw materials, even though most villages in the district have car roads.
Purchasing raw glue in Con Cuong
Mr. Lang Anh Hung - Head of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Con Cuong district, shared: "There is no raw material road, causing transportation costs to increase, and traders have a reason to squeeze prices. If transportation is favorable, many other agricultural products will have less difficulty in output, not just acacia trees". For the forest grower Ngan Van Quan, although he has dozens of hectares of acacia that are ready to be harvested, he still does not want to sell; on his free days, he follows acacia harvesting teams to earn more income. Mr. Quan said: "If I sell my acacia garden now, it will be worth about 100 million VND, but I do not want to sell because the real value can be many times that. I would rather save it to sell the wood in about five years, each tree can be worth up to 1 million VND." In addition to planting acacia, people also plant meter trees. For many years now, meter trees have always had stable prices, each meter tree, depending on the current size, costs from 10,000 VND - 15,000 VND/tree; After 7-10 years of planting, the tree can produce stable harvests for decades to come.
Mr. Vi Ngoc Quynh - Vice Chairman of Con Cuong District People's Committee, said: In the coming time, the local government will continue to orient the development of raw material plants. However, it is still necessary to base on the actual needs of each household registered in the villages to have specific support for the people.
