(Baonghean.vn) –After 4 days of being submerged in water, the gardens of households and village roads in flooded hamlets of Hung Nhan and Hung Loi communes (Hung Nguyen) were covered with a layer of mud and stagnant garbage.
On the morning of October 20, the flood water had basically receded, and as the water receded, the villagers cleaned up. Only a few families still had their yards flooded and some low-lying roads were flooded from 15 to 30 cm. In all the families and alleys of the flooded area, people took the opportunity to clean up trash and wash away the remaining mud without complaining much because the people outside the dike of Hung Nguyen district were used to the annual floods. Mrs. Tran Thi Thanh in hamlet 7, Hung Loi commune, is 89 years old this year but still helps her children and grandchildren clean up their yards when the water recedes. Having lived for so many years, Mrs. Thanh has witnessed more floods than that. Just this October, the flood water has risen three times.
In most families, the straw piles are built high above the ground, more than 2 meters above the ground, so that the straw is kept dry when flooded. While collecting straw for 4 cows, Mr. Tran Van Hoe (Hamlet 7-Hung Loi) said: “Here, everyone has to build high straw piles so that the flood does not flood the food for the cows and buffaloes. This is the food source for the cows and buffaloes during the flood season, because in the fields, the grass is buried by mud and dirt…”
