Mr. Praset said he received love and respect from all his wives. |
Tambon Praset, the head of Phromnee district, Nakom Nayok province, Thailand, about 90 km from the capital Bangkok, was recently forced to admit that he had illegally married more than 100 women. He is considered the equivalent of Casanova (1725-1798) - the most "lady-killer" Italian writer and explorer of all time.
The 58-year-old local politician and owner of a major construction company welcomed the media into his home to shed light on his family life after reporters in Bangkok received the news. Asked if it was true he had more than 100 wives across Thailand, Praset said: "I have 120 wives and 28 children, both boys and girls."
Praset told reporters that he started marrying when he was 17. "My first marriage was when I was 17," Praset said. "My first wife was a year younger than me and we had three children. After that I married a series of others. Most of them were young women under 20. I didn't like older women because they argued back."
As Praset grew up and went into construction, he developed a habit of taking a wife from the area wherever he built a house. "I was a contractor. Wherever I built a house, I had a wife," Praset told the Daily News. "I loved them all and they loved me."
Every time Praset took a new wife, he would tell her that he already had many wives and would also tell the other wives that he planned to marry again. To date, Praset has 22 wives living around Phromnee district, with the rest scattered across Thailand.
"When I said I had a new wife, no one had a problem with it. They all accepted the situation and there was never any argument," the polygamist said. "I respected them. In every case, I asked for permission from my superiors to marry according to customs and traditions. All the weddings were held properly."
At the same time, taking care of 120 wives and 28 children has never been a problem for Mr. Praset. He always provides them with what they need, even building houses for the wives who do not have their own houses. "If they do not have their own houses, I will build and arrange everything so that they can all be happy," Praset told reporters.
During Praset's recent media interview, his latest wife, Nam Fon (27 years old) was also present and seemed unsurprised by what Praset revealed as proof that what Praset said was true.
It is not yet clear what legal consequences Casanova will face for his actions.
