Man on the run from arrest under cover of land broker in the South
(Baonghean.vn) - After 26 years of hiding in a foreign land under the guise of a "land broker", it was thought that the past had been buried. However, close to the traditional New Year, Nguyen Dinh Quang still had to put his hands in handcuffs to return to his homeland to face trial.
Sentenced to 4 years in prison by the People's Court of Hoa Binh province for the crime of "Destroying important works that are dangerous to national security", while awaiting release on bail, Nguyen Dinh Quang (born in 1965), residing in Hung Dung ward (Vinh city), fled to the South, got married, had children, and worked as a "land broker".

At the police station, Quang kept saying that he had surrendered and that his documents were being kept by his brother, but when asked why he did not present himself to the investigation agency and instead fled to the South to live, Quang replied that no one had notified him so he did not know. In fact, the wanted decision No. 100 dated July 2, 1992 against Nguyen Dinh Quang and the Special Project with code number 218H did not really end until February 9, 2018, when the Special Task Force of the PC52 Department of the Provincial Police handed Quang over to the investigation agency.
At first glance, Nguyen Dinh Quang has a crew cut, beard, and scraggly gray hair that looks very "cool". However, after a long time on the run, having a happy family with a good wife and two good daughters has made Quang more mature and sensible than when he was young when he committed the crime. "When his wife and children came to visit him before being extradited to Nghe An, Quang told them: I committed a crime so I have to pay for it, you children are obedient, hard-working, and when I finish paying my debt to the law, I will return", said Captain Phan Minh Loc - Captain of Team 4, PC52 (Crime Investigation Department, Provincial Police).
Before that, in early 1989, Quang was hired as a worker at the Song Da Hydropower Corporation (Hoa Binh province). One evening in July, after drinking with his young friends, Quang nodded in agreement with his friends' suggestion to steal wires and some electrical equipment to sell for money to continue drinking. When he learned that it was equipment for an important project, Quang was afraid of being discovered so he asked for leave to return to his hometown. After only 20 days, Quang was arrested by the police and detained for 2 months, then released on bail pending trial.
In 1992, Quang was sentenced to 4 years in prison by the People's Court of Hoa Binh province for destroying important works that were dangerous to national security. While awaiting execution of his sentence, Quang went to the southern provinces to do business and never returned. The Hoa Binh provincial police assigned the Investigation Police Department (PC16) of Nghe An provincial police to issue a wanted notice to arrest Quang and bring him to justice.
Searching for Quang's traces in the southern provinces, each time it seemed like they had caught him, but when they arrived, the detectives were disappointed because they were mistaken. In 2012, when Quang returned to his hometown to commemorate his father, he was surrounded and arrested by the Provincial Police's Wanted Team No. 3, but Quang escaped once again.
Returning to the South, Quang constantly moved jobs, sometimes working for hire in one province for a few months, then moving back to work as a worker in another province for a few years. In early 1996, Quang moved to Binh Duong province to apply for a job as a worker in Song Than Industrial Park. Here, Quang fell in love with a girl from Ha Tinh who worked at the same company. A simple wedding took place not long after, but only his mother's family and friends were present to celebrate.
In 1998, the first daughter was born, in 2004, Quang and his wife gave birth to a second daughter. The children are beautiful, obedient and the family life is warm. However, after the death of his biological parents, he did not dare to return home for the funeral, which made Quang always regretful, thinking about the past, especially every time Tet and Spring came, when the children asked to return home to visit their grandparents and relatives, giving Quang more courage, honestly telling his wife and children all the mistakes of his youth. Quang also quit his job as a worker in the industrial park and became a "land broker".
In late January 2018, the Special Task Force of PC52 of the Provincial Police Department set out for the Southern and Central Highlands provinces to arrest wanted criminals. Nguyen Dinh Quang was the first person arrested on January 25, 2018 after the Task Force received support and close coordination with the local police in neighboring provinces.
The most difficult thing for the working group was after receiving information from the detective that Quang was residing in Di An Town, Binh Duong Province, but when verifying, there were too many people named Quang from Nghe An living in the area. Continuing to screen, the information was narrowed down to the profession of land broker, then there were 6 people named Quang who were called by Di An Ward Police to be investigated. Hearing Nghe An accent, Quang knew why he was called so he honestly confessed.
In the last days of the Lunar New Year 2017, detectives of the special task force of PC52 Department arrested and transferred 12 subjects according to the wanted warrant and handed them over to the police of districts and cities for handling according to the law.
Nguyen Dinh Quang was released on bail at Trung Dinh block, Hung Dung ward (Vinh city) to celebrate Tet with his family.
