The flood discharge from Ban Ve Hydropower Plant in late August 2018 caused serious consequences for the people of Ban Ve resettlement village. In addition to the loss of houses, property, and flooding of the people, the road leading to the village has now seriously subsided. At this location, the residential land of about 300m long has broken apart, leaning towards the cliff. Photo: Nhat Lan. |

Ms. Luong Thi Du's house is located next to the river. During the flood, her house collapsed due to landslides all the way to the kitchen. Currently, she still has to continue living here. She sighed: "I know it's dangerous. But there's no other way...". Photo: Nhat Lan. |

According to Ms. Luong Thi Huynh - Head of Ve village (the woman in the photo), in the recent flood discharge, 5 households in the village lost their houses, 6 houses had to be urgently dismantled and relocated, 14 houses were flooded from 1 - 3m deep, 5 houses were flooded under 1m. Many people's properties were washed away in the flood, currently the village, commune and district are making statistics. What is worrying is that the roadbed and land of households located close to the river are extremely worrying. Especially for households whose houses are in areas where the land has cracked and eroded. "I hope that superiors will send officials to survey and assess promptly to find solutions to help people" - Ms. Huynh shared. Photo: Nhat Lan. |

Present at Ban Ve hydropower reservoir on the afternoon of September 5, 2018, the upstream elevation was approximately 200m, higher than the prescribed water level during the flood season by over 7m. This is extremely worrying, because if the upstream has bad weather, heavy rain and floods, the flood discharge will continue with great intensity. The consequences for the people will continue to occur. Especially for the households in the resettlement village of Ban Ve who are living precariously on the edge of the cliff. Photo: Nhat Lan. |
