(Baonghean) - That is Mr. Kha Van Va, an environmental and agricultural cadastral officer of Ta Ca commune, Ky Son district. Born and raised in a village, Va is always worried and worried when every year during the farming season, people arbitrarily go into the forest to burn the fields, leading to forest fires. Besides, some people are still subjective, thinking that in remote areas there is no pollution, so they do not have the awareness to prevent environmental protection, littering indiscriminately...

Faced with the above situation, with the encouragement of the district and the provincial Department of Environmental Protection, Va boldly registered the topic of mobilizing people to participate in environmental protection. He confided: Fortunately, after registering, local leaders were interested and created conditions for me to implement and put the ideas into practice. Initially, focusing on propaganda, Va organized 2-3 sessions each year in combination with grassroots work trips, together with district department officials to propagate the Law on Minerals, the Law on Land, the Law on Environmental Protection, and the Law on Forest Protection to the people. Through propaganda, Va provided people with ways to minimize and limit the harmful effects of environmental pollution through examples of specific cases of wildlife hunting, illegal logging, and slash-and-burn farming in the area. During many peak periods at the beginning of the farming season, he and the Forest Protection Department officers traveled weekly to villages, especially villages far from the center, to propagate to people not to burn fields in prohibited areas and to only farm in planned areas.

Along with that, on weekends or holidays, Va, together with the youth union members and the village executive committee, mobilized people to organize environmental sanitation in the village area, dredge drainage ditches, help poor households to remove dilapidated thatched houses, build airy houses, move livestock out from under the house to avoid mosquitoes and insects, prevent diseases caused by parasites; mobilized ethnic people to abandon backward customs and build a cultural lifestyle. Within 2 years, Va advised and actively urged the two villages of Hoa Son and Xuan Ha to build public toilets at the community house; coordinated and together with the school leaders and the villages in the surrounding areas to guide each village to dig 2-3 concentrated pits to treat untreated waste for fertilizer; periodically on the occasion of the anniversary of the launching ceremony, organize tree planting at schools, clinics, community cultural houses, and agency headquarters. In addition to the above-mentioned activities, as the main advisor in state management of the environment, Va proactively advised the leaders of the Commune People's Committee to coordinate with the Nam Mo Hydropower Management Board to inspect the reservoir, handle impacts that may affect the environment, remind the unit to notify the people when releasing water to ensure the safety of people and livestock; mobilize people to raise livestock but not to let them roam freely to prevent diseases and protect trees and crops...

Thanks to the above active and proactive advisory solutions, environmental protection work in Ta Ca commune has achieved positive changes. Although it is a particularly difficult area, people's awareness of environmental protection has been significantly raised. Some villages no longer have the situation of littering indiscriminately, and slash-and-burn farming still occurs but only in planned areas; gold and sand mining in the area has decreased significantly and is under control; every time the dam is discharged, the Hydropower Management Board promptly notifies the locality and people to adjust and minimize the negative impacts caused by the discharged hydropower mud on aquaculture and daily life.

As a "gratitude" and reward for the efforts of local people in caring for and preserving the environment, in the past few years, there have been no forest fires, floods, or landslides. Not only that, thanks to good environmental protection, livestock farming has been more concentrated, rice productivity has been much higher due to proactive irrigation water, in the last winter-spring crop, 40 hectares of rice land in the commune achieved a yield of 5 tons/ha; ensuring health and water sources for people. With the above changes, the lives of people in Ta Ca commune have been increasingly improved, the village's appearance is cleaner and more beautiful; the commune has been recognized by the district as an advanced unit and continues to be a bright spot in Ky Son district and the ethnic mountainous region of Nghe An in terms of self-management and environmental protection models.

Chairman of Ta Ca Commune People's Committee, Mr. Vu Va Cha, assessed: Not only is Kha Van Va dedicated and responsible in propagating and mobilizing people to protect the environment, he is also a civil servant with good expertise, enthusiasm and creativity in consulting. Although the working time is not long, the management of environmental resources in the area has been updated regularly and fully. The community can easily and conveniently access to invest in exploitation as well as inventory and evaluate the potential of land and mineral resources to serve as a basis for developing plans and plans for exploitation and rational and effective use of natural resources.

Talking to us, Kha Van Va said: Receiving the provincial environmental award was a big surprise for me. The award is a recognition and I will have to try to maintain and contribute more to the local environmental protection movement. It is known that now, after being admitted to the Party, Va is being given the opportunity by local leaders to study and improve his knowledge of land management to do better in his profession. Hopefully, with his enthusiasm, this young man will contribute more and more to his homeland and become an outstanding example in protecting the environment in ethnic mountainous areas.
