The "forerunner" in Nam Nhoong

(Baonghean) - Party member Vi Van Dien is not only a typical example in developing family economy but also an exemplary pioneer in voluntarily donating land to the commune and village to build a community cultural house, build a medical station and actively mobilize other households to contribute to the goal of building new rural areas in the highland commune of Nam Nhoong.
These are the most concise and complete summaries of Mr. Vi Van Dien, a party member with nearly 30 years of party membership, currently living in Na village, Nam Nhoong commune, Que Phong district. In 2010, when he was the village party cell secretary, realizing that the commune needed land to build a community house, he discussed with his wife and children to move the house to a farm nearly 2 km away to give the commune a 700 m2 house plot. After transferring the house plot, the remaining 840 m2 of land for a fish pond was built with concrete, but when the commune cadres came to persuade him, he was ready to donate it to the commune to build a medical station. Thanks to the generosity of him and his family, Na village now has a spacious community cultural house and a new medical station with full functional rooms to serve the needs of medical examination and treatment for the villagers.
Having the opportunity to meet and discuss with him about this noble act, he humbly said: “I am a long-time resident of the commune, so I know that the commune’s land fund is difficult. If we build a community house and a medical station far from the residential area, it will be inconvenient for the daily life as well as medical examination and treatment for the villagers. Moreover, at that time, as the village party secretary, I had to be a good example to mobilize the villagers, and I already had land to live on in my hut...”. Seeing his meaningful work, 20 households in the village also voluntarily donated land, removed fences and trees for the commune to build new rural roads.

Mr. Dien (left) discusses his experience in "civil mobilization". |
Currently, although he is no longer the Party cell secretary, in his role as the head of the Farmers' Association, Mr. Dien actively mobilizes households in the village to support land for volleyball courts and to build new rural roads. To build a new cultural lifestyle, he goes to each house to mobilize people to innovate weddings and funerals, eliminate backward customs, and move livestock pens out of the house. From his example, 85 households in Na village have moved their livestock pens out of the house; many families (Thai and Kho Mu) have gradually abandoned their backward lifestyles and customs.
Not only is he a pioneer in the village's public affairs, Mr. Dien is also a typical example of good economic performance. He has planned the land into a comprehensive farm, he reclaimed land for rice cultivation below the stream, and established a forest farm and raised livestock above. When no one in Nam Nhoong commune had yet planted bo bo (called Mac ca in Thai - a medicinal plant), through his experience in the forest, Mr. Dien discovered this precious plant and brought it closer to his home to try planting and propagating it. From his guidance, bo bo has been widely propagated, and now Nam Nhoong has nearly 20 hectares of bo bo, providing people with a stable income. On his farm, he has established a VACR model that brings in an annual income of approximately 100 million VND. Thanks to his stable income, he has more conditions to raise his children to be obedient and good at studying. He has 4 children, 3 of whom have finished university, 2 of whom have stable jobs.
Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Nam Nhoong commune, Ms. Lo Thi Huong, commented: Comrade Vi Van Dien not only set an example by volunteering to donate land to the village and commune, mobilizing the villagers to do the same, but was also a good business party member, raised his children to adulthood, and was a typical cultural family of the Thai people in Nam Nhoong commune.
