Street light switch
(Baonghean.vn) – As introduced, we went to Mr. Nguyen Phan Huyen's house in hamlet 3, Hung Dao commune (Hung Nguyen district) because for more than 3 years now he has been voluntarily doing a quiet job - turning on and off the street lights for the hamlet.
Mr. Nguyen Phan Huyen (born in 1930, from hamlet 3, Hung Dao commune, Hung Nguyen district) was a soldier who participated in the resistance war against France and the US. In peacetime, he was a member of the Hong Lam poetry club of the district and commune.
In October 2009, Hamlet 3 was recognized as a Cultural Village, all 190 households in the hamlet donated to install a system of 60 light bulbs to light up the hamlet streets. And since then, Mr. Huyen has regularly turned on and off the street lights for the whole hamlet every day. Whether it is winter or summer, at 6pm, he turns on the lights and at 6am the next morning, he turns them off.
When asked why he volunteered to do this at his old age, he smiled gently: "This job is not too hard, and besides, Uncle Ho taught that if you can do something beneficial to the people, you must do it at all costs."
Not only does he enthusiastically participate in local social activities, he is also an amateur poet with many good poems. Last Tet Nham Thin, he was recognized as an “Exemplary Veteran”, and his family has been a “cultural family” for many years.
