Over the past three years, 3G services have developed rapidly in Vietnam, alongside mobile services. With millions of subscribers, 3G is an indispensable tool for surfing the web, reading news, and accessing social networks every day.

That's why, as soon as they heard the news of 3G adjusting fees, many users looked for ways to "control" this cost.

Sharing on a technology forum, Duong Chi Dat's opinion about three solutions to save 3G fees received hundreds of likes. They are turning off 3G when not in use; downloading movies and music on a laptop and then copying them to your phone to watch; bookmarking your favorite websites.

Dat shared: "The most common mistake 3G users make is forgetting to turn off mobile data when not in use, which causes huge charges. Even if you use an unlimited service package, that carelessness still wastes high-speed data.

Movies and music often have quite large capacity, watching directly or downloading via "cell phone" takes a long time, and costs 3G. Instead, you should do it on your laptop and then copy it to your phone. Another small thing, bookmarking frequently visited websites will help you skip a few intermediate steps, thereby saving more time and capacity."

In addition to the general 3G saving formula, many people are still wondering how to cut the cost of this service in the most reasonable and effective way when the price has recently increased by 20,000 VND, from 50,000 VND to 70,000 VND.

The solution that many subscribers have come up with is to review the packages and choose the one that suits their needs. Because the recent 3G price increase does not apply to all services, some packages are even discounted.

HungMoon, a technical staff of a software company, shared: “The price increase policy is only applied to the unlimited 3G package, increasing by 20,000 VND, and adding 100MB of high-speed access.

Therefore, only those who use 3G a lot need unlimited data packages, while those who use 3G less also have small, cheap data packages. Depending on your needs, choosing the most suitable package is the most economical."

According to HungMoon, taking Viettel's 3G tariff as an example, those who need to "use" 3G quite a lot, about 500MB to 1GB per month, or have difficulty managing the fee should choose the unlimited 3G service Mimax. Each month, with 70,000 VND, subscribers can use 600MB of high speed.

After the above capacity is used up, users can still access the Internet without any cost but at average speed.

If anyone needs to use 3G regularly, they should buy more high-speed traffic with the Max10 package (10k for 100MB), Max30 (30k for 500MB) or register for Dmax, Dmax200.

As for those who use 3G less, from 100MB to less than 500MB per month, equivalent to 30-100 minutes of internet access per day, they can choose the MI10, MI30 or MI50 packages. These are service packages that are charged by traffic, the monthly subscription fee is 10,000 VND, 30,000 VND or 50,000 VND respectively, corresponding to the free data amount of 50MB, 200MB or 450MB. After using up the free traffic, the fee for each 50KB is 25 VND.

Nowadays, many families and offices have Wifi, so if you surf the web or Facebook on your mobile phone while “on the go”, you only need to choose data packages based on traffic. If you need less, you should consider the Mimin package, Hung shared.

Faced with the "heat" of the 3G fee issue, experts in the telecommunications field also emphasized that currently, network operators are diversifying 3G service packages, not all 3G packages have increased in price.

To truly save, or rather not waste, users should balance the amount of money spent and the efficiency of use. Subscribers should refer to the tariff table, choose the package that suits their needs, and even change it regularly to suit the needs of each time./
