Sonny Truyen, an Australian of Vietnamese origin, used vulgar words on Facebook to talk about Singapore because the country has not released the virtual animal hunting game that is causing a stir around the world.
This statement quickly received strong reactions.
“Why do you say that? Aren't you living in Singapore?” one person asked.
Truyen responded that Singapore was "full of stupid people", before saying that Singaporeans could not read, were "only good at arguing" and that the "average IQ" in the country would drop if he left.
The girl above expressed disappointment with Truyen's response and said he should leave the island nation.
According to BBC, after receiving complaints about the incident, the Singaporean real estate company where Truyen worked quickly fired him.
CEO Darius Cheung also issued a public apology on the company's website, saying Truyen had only been working there for a week.
"Sonny Truyen displayed rude behaviour in a Facebook post," he said. "We are a proud Singaporean company and do not tolerate such language or behaviour, so we terminated our relationship with him as soon as the matter became clear."
Mr Cheung also asked people not to spread "messages of hate and division but instead to celebrate our diversity".
"I'm sure we all have friends who are Australian or Vietnamese. How would they feel if they read those lines?", he said.
According to information on Facebook, Truyen lives in Melbourne, Australia, studied network systems and commerce. He is said to have worked in Malaysia, England and Australia.
In a statement to Mashable, Truyen admitted that he was wrong to act in anger but said he was also discriminated against for not being a "white Australian".
Pokemon Go is a game that allows users to use smartphones and GPS maps to hunt virtual animals. The game was just released by Nintendo last week but immediately became a global fever.
