The first Vietnamese American to be promoted to General in the US
On August 5, Statement.com (USA) reported that Colonel Viet Xuan Luong of Fort Hood military base in Texas will become the first Vietnamese-American soldier to be promoted to the rank of Major General in the history of the US military. Mr. Luong is currently the deputy commander of exercises of the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood base.

The general promotion ceremony will be held at 9:00 a.m. (local time) on August 6 at Fort Hood. It is expected that more than 100 people from the Vietnamese American community in Austin, Texas, where Luong is stationed, will attend the ceremony.
According to Statement.com, Mr. Viet Xuan Luong's family immigrated to the United States in 1975. Mr. Luong is currently the deputy commander of exercises for the 1st Cavalry Division at Fort Hood.
Binh Nguyen, the police officer in charge of liaison with the Asian community in Austin, said with this event, Mr. Luong has made a historic milestone for the Vietnamese American community.
“It was a very proud moment,” Binh Nguyen shared. “It’s rare for a Vietnamese-American to serve in the US military, but to have a high-ranking military officer,” Binh Nguyen said./.
