Vietnamese-American holds the position of global product director for Ford
Queen Mother Tang is in charge of design, engineering and manufacturing, and manages Ford's $100 billion annual spending.
On May 22, the US media reported that Ford's board of directors restructured the company's leadership team. The new CEO, Jim Hackett, after taking office, changed a number of senior personnel, with the hope of reforming and bringing Ford back to growth.
Ford is running short on several product lines, leading the American automaker to enter into a partnership with GM to address the problem. As a result, Hackett appointed a new person to the position of Ford global product manager, Hau Thai Tang, who will fully direct the design, engineering and manufacturing to bring the new models to market.

Tang Thai Hau is of Vietnamese descent. He was the chief engineer of the 2005 Mustang, reviving the car with his own retro style, pressuring Chevrolet to launch the 5th generation Camaro. Before that, he worked in the CART racing division, where the Lincoln LS was developed, and then became the chief engineer of the Thunderbird line.
In addition, Tang Thai Hau was in charge of the SVT (Special Vehicle Team) branch, responsible for launching high-performance Ford models, and served as the global product program executive and product innovation director.
After graduating and working at Ford in 1993, Thai Hau Tang served as a technical engineer for drivers Nigel Mansell and Mario Andretti in the Newman-Haas CART and IndyCar racing teams. He contributed significantly to Ford's 6 wins and 11 top 3 finishes.
At the time of the 2005 Ford Mustang's debut, Queen Mother Tang told the Los Angeles Times that she had seen her first Mustang while in Saigon. A white Mach 1 Mustang. She was a 5-year-old boy at the time.
"The car really left a deep impression on me, with its long wheelbase and air intake on the hood. It has a very distinctive muscular look," said Tang Thai Hau.

Coming to the US in 1975, he has a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Mellon University and a master's degree from the University of Michigan. After graduating, Tang Thai Hau worked as an engineer for Ford and bought his first car, a Mustang.
He has more than 25 years of experience in product development, and recently left his position as Vice President of Global Product Development. He was also a key player in Alan Mulally's famous "One Ford" plan.
In the eight years from 2007 to 2015, Ford reduced its global vehicle lineup from 27 to nine, and is on its way to eight.
In 2001, the Automotive Hall of Fame awarded Empress Dowager Tang the Young Leader and Excellence Award.
In addition to his role as Ford's global product manager, he also serves as vice president of global purchasing. The job may sound boring, but Ford itself points out that Tang is responsible for managing the company's $100 billion in annual spending. Automotive Supply Chain magazine even named him Purchasing Manager of the Year.
