The 'light-maker' on Pha Khao peak

(Baonghean.vn) - In the mountainous area of ​​Mai Son, Tuong Duong district, Party cell secretary Gia Ba Gau is a typical example in studying and following Ho Chi Minh's moral example, becoming the pride of the local people.

As a Party cell secretary, Gia Ba Gau always wondered how to stabilize the lives of the people. Many times, he traveled to the commune and district to express his wish to have a road connecting the commune to the village and from his village to other villages to facilitate trade of goods, as well as cultural exchange between ethnic groups.

Not letting down the efforts of him and the people of Pha Khao, the capital of Program 135 was approved by the district. After only a short time of launching, the dirt road of more than 7km, with a width of more than 2m was completed and put into use, opening up a promising future for the Mong people here.

With the road, people's lives have changed compared to before.

Secretary Gia Ba Gau said: “In the past, our villagers often went to Laos because the village was difficult and had no roads. We often went to agencies and companies to ask our superiors for funding to build roads to the village so that people could travel, then went to each house to encourage people to settle down and make a living. Since 2008, there has been a road, so the products we make can be sold, no one in our village goes to Laos anymore, no one has a third child, no children drop out of school, and there are no drugs in the village. Since then, people have been stable and very excited.”

When the road was cleared and security and order in the area were maintained, Secretary Gau still had a burning concern about how to help the villagers escape poverty sustainably. Following the resolution of the commune Party Congress, he directed the people to eliminate old farming practices, gradually get acquainted with and apply science to production, and especially he mobilized 15 party members in the cell to do it first.

When introducing new rice varieties to produce over 2 hectares of rice fields, dozens of hectares of corn, ginger, and squash were also put into production on time; buffaloes and cows were raised for commercial purposes, and the economic life of the villagers gradually developed.

The cultural and spiritual life of people everywhere has improved compared to before.

On the “heaven’s gate”, the rocky terrain makes it very difficult to find a source of water for daily use. With his youth and intelligence, Gia Ba Gau went to different places and brought electricity from the streams running through the village to learn, then he tried it first. He spent time monitoring the floods through the streams, then determined the point of blocking the flow, and installed the generator. His efforts were not in vain, electricity came along with the surprise of the villagers.

With electricity and roads, Pha Khao village has really changed. Currently, there are no more hungry households in the village. The number of poor households has decreased every year. Out of 46 households, 40 have electricity and over 60% of households have audio and visual equipment.

Comrade Lo Van Hoa - Secretary of the Mai Son Commune Party Committee shared: "There are roads and electricity, the people's stable lives are partly thanks to Secretary Gau. Now political security is also stable, the village is drug-free, and the economy and society are more developed. Secretary Gau is recognized as a typical example of following Uncle Ho 5 not only in the commune, but also in the district."
