(Baonghean.vn) - A study from the Oxford Internet Institute of the University of Oxford (UK) and the Center for Social Data Science of the University of Copenhagen (Denmark) shows that workers with artificial intelligence (AI) skills will be paid up to 40% higher than those without these skills.

Accordingly, the study shows that workers who do not know how to use AI are at risk of being disadvantaged compared to those who do, and workers with AI expertise are paid an average of 21% higher, especially workers with high AI skills can be paid up to 40% higher than other subjects.

The study, which surveyed 25,000 workers, found that knowledge of five areas including machine learning, open source AI software, deep learning, natural language processing, and data science are the skills most highly valued by employers.

“Our findings have profound implications for individuals, businesses and policymakers,” said Dr Fabian Stephany, one of the study’s authors. “By recognizing the value of AI-related skills, we can better guide workers on their personal reskilling journeys in times of technological change.”

The findings come as employers and workers grapple with the implications of generative AI models like ChatGPT, which launched late last year.

Accordingly, a new study published by IBM Technology Group (USA) shows that about 40% of the global workforce, equivalent to about 1.4 billion workers, will have to retrain skills in the next 3 years due to the impact of AI deployment.

Generative AI models like ChatGPT can perform a variety of tasks, such as answering fluently and completely any question you ask them, regardless of the field. In addition, ChatGPT can also write poetry, compose music, write letters, design, and even fix programming errors. Many people have used ChatGPT to do these things, which has made AI smarter.

With ChatGPT's intelligence, many people fear that this technology will replace their jobs. A new study by IBM shows that people should not fear this technology but rather take advantage of the benefits it brings.

Speaking at the Google Cloud Next conference in London (UK) in early October, Adam Raeburn-Jones, chief technology officer of multinational company Unilever, said that AI skills will be an important factor in future recruitment decisions. He believes that job seekers who know how to use new technology will have a natural advantage.

“The people who are really good at it will be the ones who learn how to best harness the technology,” said Mr. Raeburn-Jones. “The next generation will probably pick it up faster than ours.”

Meanwhile, Stephan Pretorius, chief technology officer (CTO) of advertising company WPP (UK), said that his company is currently recruiting people with specialized AI skills and that employers will struggle to attract young workers with AI expertise.

“The skills they use when they enter the job market today are fundamentally different than they were 10 years ago and I don’t think the learning curve will be the same,” says Stephan Pretorius. “People entering the advertising industry are coming into the workplace comfortable with really sophisticated technology. Young people are not naive, they understand that this is a fundamental change in the way we work and they will start looking for companies that give them access to these tools.”

Talking to Businessinsider about AI skills, Oded Netzer, a business professor at Columbia University (USA), said that prioritizing workers who can use AI has taken place in fields such as coding and programming and will become more popular in the future.

“Workers who know how to use AI-related skills will be in higher demand,” said Professor Oded Netzer. “Workers who fail to keep up with these skills will not be replaced by AI, but will be replaced by people who know how to use AI.”
