The man who tricked hundreds of students into 'buying goods on installments' turned himself in
Truong Quang Anh Duc, 22 years old, turned himself in and admitted to deceiving hundreds of students into buying goods on installments to gain sales, embezzling nearly 4 billion VND.
On June 5, Ninh Kieu District Police (Can Tho) said that Anh Duc initially admitted that for nearly a year he had approached hundreds of students, claiming to be employees of a large electronics store who were running sales for the company. Duc asked the students to pretend to make purchase records so he could collect sales, paying them 400,000 VND. Anyone who introduced more friends would receive a commission of 150,000 - 200,000 VND per record.

To gain the students' trust, Duc promised that the loan application was "virtual" and would be automatically canceled after a few days. When they agreed, Duc used his citizen ID card to complete the loan procedures and buy goods on installments.
Using this trick, Duc tricked hundreds of college and university students in Can Tho, borrowing 10-60 million VND each. Duc then lent the money to others to earn interest and spend. By the end of April, Duc was unable to pay and fled.
Previously, hundreds of students filed a complaint against Duc with the Ninh Kieu District Police. They said that because they believed that "the loan application would be automatically canceled" as he promised, they signed the loan papers to buy goods on installments. However, not long after, the students were repeatedly threatened by phone calls from the finance company's employees, forcing them to pay the money./.
