(Baonghean.vn) - Every day, along the coast of Quynh Lap commune - Hoang Mai town, there are groups of young men diving for hours in the sea to hunt for crabs and snails. These "frogmen" hunt not to sell but to satisfy their passions...
Quynh Lap has over 8.4km of coastline running along the commune, winding with fine golden sand beaches and many pristine rocky beaches. The sea water here is clear blue, embracing the wide rocky beaches. This is home to many types of plankton and is home to snails and stone crabs. In the summer, groups of young people invite each other to dive for crabs and snails.
Each diving group consists of about 3 to 5 people, equipped with goggles and gloves, swimming in the rocky areas to catch all kinds of snails, hill snails, and stone crabs. They spend hours in the sea to satisfy their hunting pleasure. They do not hunt for sale but to serve drinking parties with friends.
Mr. Nguyen Van Nho - Vice President of the Fisheries Association of Quynh Lap Commune said: The snails and crabs living in the cliffs along the coast of the commune are very delicious. Each group of 3 to 5 people, diving for 1 to 2 hours, can catch about 2kg of snails and crabs. Therefore, most of the young people in the fishing village often dive together to catch them to eat, not to sell.
To catch snails and crabs on the cliffs, hunters must be good divers, have sharp eyes and be familiar with the rocky shore. This is one of the manual fishing activities to practice diving skills of the young people in the fishing village.
