Woman dies after neighbor's electric trap to scare away thieves
Many times his property was stolen, Hoan set up an electric trap to chase away thieves but ended up causing his neighbor to lose his life...
On March 9, the Hanoi People's Court decided to sentence defendant Nguyen Van Hoan (born in 1956, residing in Yen Quang commune, Y Yen, Nam Dinh) to 10 years in prison for the crime of "Murder", according to Article 123 of the 2015 Penal Code. The victim in the case was Ms. Tran Thi Tuyen (born in 1966), a neighbor at the defendant's residence.
Accordingly, the indictment against the defendant determined that due to marital conflicts, in March 2017, Nguyen Van Hoan rented a house in My Lam sub-area, Phu Xuyen town, Phu Xuyen district, Hanoi to live separately. While renting a house, Hoan continuously discovered that his property was stolen.
In order to ward off thieves, in July 2017, Hoan bought steel wire and strung it around his house, then connected it to the power grid. Every day before going to bed or leaving the house for work, Hoan activated the steel wire system to become an electric trap.
Defendant Nguyen Van Hoan was brought to trial.
As usual, on the morning of August 18, 2017, Hoan left the house and plugged in the electrical outlet connected to the steel wire system around the house. At noon that same day, due to carelessness, Ms. Tran Thi Tuyen (the defendant's neighbor) got caught in the steel wire that Hoan had strung up and died on the spot.
After examining the victim's body, authorities determined that the cause of Ms. Tuyen's death was circulatory and respiratory failure due to being directly electrocuted by the power grid.
Brought to trial, Hoan admitted to creating the electric trap as charged in the indictment, but claimed that the purpose was nothing more than to trap mice and prevent anyone from entering his residence when he was away. In addition, the defendant also stated that there was a warning written on the wall.
In court, the defendant also said that he was fully aware that creating an electric trap was very dangerous... Considering the defendant's actions, the Hanoi People's Court decided to sentence Nguyen Van Hoan to 10 years in prison, according to the crime charged, and at the same time forced this man to compensate the victim's relatives for damages.
