(Baonghean)Born and raised in Dong Thanh commune, Yen Thanh district, Dang Quang An graduated as a mechanic from Factory Z167, Department of Automobiles and Tractors (now the Department of Vehicles and Machinery, General Department of Engineering, Ministry of National Defense). After graduation, he was assigned to work at Workshop 467, Department of Engineering, Military Region 4. From a "new recruit" with many uncertainties in the profession, Dang Quang An quickly overcame the initial difficulties and obstacles because he determined that he had to strive to learn from the senior technical staff, constantly improve his professional skills and expertise, and practice extensively to become proficient in his work.
As a 7/7 grade lathe operator, Dang Quang An was assigned to machine high-precision parts. Given the workshop's limited technical equipment, this was an extremely difficult task. However, with the creativity and experience of a skilled craftsman, he always came up with effective solutions. Not only did he complete all assigned tasks, but he also authored many valuable technical innovations and improvements such as: "Oil-shielded roller jig"; "GAZ 53 apple-shaped stamping die set"; "1400 x 700 shaft and hatch door opening jig"... His innovations, when applied in production, achieved high efficiency and contributed to the workshop's success. He confided: "As a craftsman, you must love your job, have a spirit and responsibility to achieve high efficiency, productivity, and quality. Without love for the job, the products you make lack soul."
As a team leader, he consistently and wholeheartedly assists young apprentices, from simple tasks like turning small parts to proper turning techniques and safe use of machinery and equipment. Not only is he skilled in his professional duties, but in his daily life at home, he is also an exemplary husband and father, wholeheartedly loving his wife and children. "My family is the foundation upon which I can fulfill my duties," he shared with me.
With his achievements in his work, Dang Quang An has received commendations from various levels for many years, and has been awarded the title of "Outstanding Soldier" at the grassroots level for 11 consecutive years; in 2006, he was awarded the title of "Outstanding Soldier" at the all-army level; in 2007, he received a commendation from the Prime Minister; and in 2010, he was awarded the title of "Excellent Worker" at the all-army level by the National Defense Trade Union.
Commenting on him, Lieutenant Colonel Nguyen Tuan Anh, Director of Workshop 467, said: “Dang Quang An is a highly responsible worker who dares to think and act. And, with his skillful hands, he has created many high-quality mechanical products, making an important contribution to the fulfillment of the production and business tasks of Workshop 467.”
