(Baonghean) -Taking us to visit his family's rice fields, Mr. Xeo Pho Nang (born in 1969, Quyet Thang village, Keng Du commune, Ky Son district) could not hide his joy: You see, our rice fields are growing very well, this season has given us a lot of rice again. Looking at the lush green rice fields and Mr. Nang's radiant face, we felt the new vitality present in this remote border area.

In 2012, during the survey of the situation in the area where the unit was stationed to build a "model" for household economic development, the mass mobilization force of Keng Du Border Guard Station (Nghe An Border Guard) discovered that Quyet Thang village had natural conditions suitable for economic development. That was the abandoned land next to Nam Xuc stream that could be reclaimed and improved to grow rice and dig and embank to create fish ponds, so they mobilized a number of households to develop household economy.

Lieutenant Xeo Van Thang, Head of the Mass Mobilization Team, Keng Du Border Guard Station, recalled: The whole village has 74 households/410 people of the Kho Mu ethnic group, and life is still very difficult. Moreover, the idea of "waiting, relying on" and support from the State, from all levels and sectors still "reigns" in the majority of the people, so people are still very passive and confused in labor production. When receiving propaganda and mobilization from officers and soldiers of Keng Du Border Guard Station, Mr. Xeo Pho Nang decided to invest money and effort to exploit the potential of forgotten land, determined to "eliminate poverty". The unit's officers and soldiers took turns helping the family from the time of reclaiming land to grow rice, digging ponds to raise fish, farming until harvest.

Mr. Nang was also the first person in Keng Du commune to boldly borrow money to buy a plow to reduce human labor and increase labor productivity. Thanks to new thinking and effective methods, in 2012, Mr. Xeo Pho Nang's family harvested nearly 4 tons of rice on an area of 1,000m2, 300kg of fish on an area of 1,000m2. Seeing that the fish and rice model was effective, in 2013, he reclaimed an additional 600m2 to grow rice and is expanding the fish pond by 500m2.

In addition to growing rice and raising fish, Mr. Nang has also invested in raising livestock with the Border Guard officers providing technical guidance and advice on choosing livestock suitable for the weather, climate, land and natural food advantages. Currently, Mr. Nang's family's livestock has grown to 35 animals, including 2 buffaloes, 10 cows, 10 goats and 13 pigs worth hundreds of millions of dong. Mr. Nang happily boasted: "If the weather is favorable, the rice, fish and livestock output this year is expected to be much higher than last year."

From a family with food shortages and economic difficulties, after being guided and applying science and technology to production, Mr. Nang's family's economy has stabilized, with some surplus, allowing him to buy many valuable household items and invest in his children's education...

Head of Quyet Thang village, Mr. Luong Pho Nguyen proudly said: Not only is he a leader in business and economic development, Mr. Xeo Pho Nang is also always exemplary in implementing the Party's guidelines and policies, the State's and local laws and actively participates in social activities in the commune and village. Mr. Xeo Pho Nang has become a "pioneer" of Quyet Thang village.

Lieutenant Colonel Cao Vo Cuong, Deputy Political Commissar of Keng Du Border Guard Station, said: In the coming time, the unit will continue to send officers and soldiers to guide and help Mr. Xeo Pho Nang's family to develop a sustainable model. The station also conducts propaganda and mobilizes households in Quyet Thang village and other villages in Keng Du commune to learn and follow Mr. Nang's model in developing household economy in the area. From there, further strengthen the solidarity between the army and people, jointly manage and firmly protect the sovereignty and security of the border, and develop the economy - culture - society in Keng Du commune.
