People who drink alcohol get free taxi rides home.
In addition to reminding customers not to drive after drinking alcohol, restaurants will keep cars overnight and call a free taxi service to take customers home. This model was first piloted in Da Nang.
On July 14, the National Traffic Safety Committee signed an agreement with a taxi company to pilot the model "Traffic safety restaurant - civilized and responsible driving" for the period 2015 - 2018. Da Nang is the locality chosen to implement phase 1 (from July 2015 to July 2016). The next phase will be implemented in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
Accordingly, restaurants participating in this program will commit to reminding and promoting customers not to drive when consuming alcohol. Customers will also be provided with overnight parking services to ensure personal property, and will be supported to call a free taxi service through the GrabTaxi application to go home.
The program aims to create a habit of "don't drive if you drink alcohol". Authorities, alcohol businesses, and transportation companies work together to prevent, inspect, detect, and handle traffic violations related to alcohol concentration among road users.
"We affirm that with efforts, commitment and drastic implementation, the program will be effective and practical," said Mr. Khuat Viet Hung, Vice Chairman of the National Traffic Safety Committee.
