Vietnamese people send their children to learn foreign languages ​​second in Asia-Pacific

According to the MasterCard survey on “Consumer spending priorities on education” conducted in 16 countries in the Asia-Pacific region in the fourth quarter of 2013, 39% of Vietnamese parents participating in the survey said they prioritize spending on their children's foreign language learning.

Accordingly, Vietnamese parents attach great importance to investing in foreign language learning for their children, second only to Korean (46%). This is a top priority, as 39% of survey participants responded that they prioritize this expense, compared to all other educational expenses for their children.

However, investment in developing sports, creative arts, and soft skills for children is less concerned. Specifically, music (7%), art (7%), sports (9%) and public speaking only 0%. And only 1% of Vietnamese parents send their children to tutoring. This rate is the lowest in the Asia-Pacific region.

According to the survey, overall, nearly three-quarters of families in the Asia-Pacific region regularly save money for their children's education, averaging 13% of their monthly family income.

Thai families lead the region with 95% of families saying they regularly set aside money for their children’s education, followed by Taiwan (82%), India (81%) and Singapore (80%). In contrast, only about a third of families in Australia (35%) and New Zealand (34%) set aside money regularly for this purpose.

In the Asia-Pacific region, the majority of parents (63%) plan to send their children to university in their home country. The two countries with the highest proportion of parents planning to send their children to study abroad are South Korea (56%) and China (55%)./.
