The person who "revives" the new land

(Baonghean) - When coming to Que Son commune, Que Phong district, asking about comrade Nguyen Tien Dung (47 years old), the people and officials here always have a precious and loving affection for him. His image is closely associated with the new rural face of Que Son commune as well as the lives of the people here since more than 5 years after separation.

Born and raised in Cam Xuyen (Ha Tinh), implementing the Party's major policy, Nguyen Tien Dung and his brothers and friends left their "native land" to migrate to build a new economic zone in Truong Banh, Que Phong. From the initial starting point as a cadre of Hai Lam hamlet, then Secretary of the Commune Youth Union, Head of the Commune Police and Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee, in May 2005, Muong Noc commune was separated, establishing the new commune of Que Son, he was trusted by the people and elected as Chairman of the Commune People's Committee from then until now. In all working positions, he always promotes a sense of responsibility, enthusiasm and dedication to work. He often goes to each hamlet and village to be close to and listen to the thoughts and aspirations of the people. Having grown up from the grassroots, he has a clear understanding of the favorable and difficult conditions here.

Realizing that the area for growing wet rice is small (88ha of wet rice/308ha of cultivated land), and there is a lack of irrigation water, he has therefore developed a specialized Resolution on developing sugarcane to provide raw materials for the NAT&L Sugarcane Factory. Not only finding ways to escape poverty for the people, Nguyen Tien Dung also plays the role of a "bridge" in guiding people on how to do business, shift the economic structure of agriculture and forestry, and introduce new high-yield varieties into cultivation to improve people's lives. This is the experience from his work as well as the knowledge he learned after completing the part-time university course in Finance - Economics.

In the movement to build new rural areas, mobilizing strength from the motto "The State and the people work together", 2 inter-village traffic projects in Hai Lam with a length of over 4,300m and a capital of 700 million VND and an intra-field canal project with a capital of nearly 1 billion VND were completed, in which there was a significant contribution from the people in both labor and money. Mr. Ho Van Hien, hamlet chief of Phong Quang hamlet, Que Son commune said: Previously, when it was first separated from Muong Noc commune, the road from the commune center to Hai Lam to Chau Thang commune (Quy Chau district) and the whole Truong Banh area was extremely difficult.

The road is just a trail, through many slopes and many streams, so trading or consuming the products made by the people is very difficult, so the price is always forced down by traders. Later, when the commune decided to convert crops and livestock, sugarcane was introduced as the main crop of the commune, but it also encountered difficulties in transporting raw materials to supply the NAT&L Sugar Factory. On the route, people volunteered to donate land, cut down trees and participate in labor to open the road. Since the road was built, people's lives have improved, children can go to school more conveniently, people's health is more focused on...

With the motto of considering economic development as the top priority, focusing on intensive cultivation to increase productivity on wet rice, introducing hybrid rice into the locality, up to now 90% of rice area in Que Son commune has achieved a yield of over 51 ta/ha. Vegetable production of all kinds with clean vegetable models such as kohlrabi, cabbage... has reached over 50 hectares, with output sold to the market from 310 - 330 tons per year. In addition, over 60 acacia and fallow land have been converted to sugarcane growing areas, increasing the raw sugarcane growing area of ​​the whole commune to over 220 hectares, sugarcane output sold to NAT&L Sugar Factory is over 10,000 tons, making it the commune providing the highest sugarcane output in the whole district.

The economic models VAC, VACR are interested in directing, renovating and building from ineffective mixed gardens. In particular, in 2012, the Safe Vegetable Cooperative was established in Hai Lam hamlet, opening up opportunities for people to develop the economy, increase income, build models and good economic examples. Currently, Que Son commune has become a bright spot in mobilizing the combined strength of the people in building new rural areas. The poverty rate has decreased rapidly, from 34% in 2011 to below 25%. Que Son is one of the two communes selected by the Que Phong district steering committee to build a model for this policy in the period 2010-2015.

Que Son today is on the path of renewal every day. The wild and grassy land of Truong Banh has now become rice fields, sugarcane fields, corn fields, interspersed with vegetable gardens and fish ponds. That development is thanks to "leader" Nguyen Tien Dung. Mr. Dung shared: I always consider myself a person elected by the people, whatever the people need, I will serve enthusiastically. No matter what work I do, no matter how difficult it is, if I have a dedicated, responsible attitude and know how to arrange work reasonably between family and society, everything will achieve good results. My biggest concern now is that the State needs attention and investment for 3 villages (Coc, Dai, Pieng Mon), where Thai and Kho Mu ethnic people currently live, to have more favorable traffic conditions so that people have the opportunity to develop trade.
