The builder of Mac Dien tea brand
(Baonghean)-Determined to build a clean tea brand, Nguyen Canh Tuan (Hamlet 4, Hung Son Commune, Anh Son District) did not hesitate to give up his stable job at a business and accept to start over. And after only nearly 2 years, the Mac Dien tea brand was born...
The Mac Dien green tea factory is still very modest, located in the yard behind Mr. Tuan's family. At this time, the two tea dryers are idle, and the workers are also off work. Knowing our questions, the owner explained: We are focusing on building a high-end green tea brand, so this season the raw materials to make tea do not meet production requirements. The best tea must be harvested from March to October...

Nguyen Canh Tuan talks with reporters about ideas for developing the Mac Dien tea brand. |
Talking to Nguyen Canh Tuan, feeling the confidence, maturity, and secretiveness, it is hard to guess that he has just turned 30 this year. In particular, Tuan is very passionate about tea. Tuan believes that it is normal for him to love tea trees because his family has a long tradition of growing tea. Moreover, Tuan is living in Hung Son, one of the localities with the largest tea acreage in Anh Son district and he has nearly 10 years of experience working in a tea factory... Also because of his love for tea, what Tuan is most concerned about is that Nghe An tea, although famous, has the lowest price in the country. Coincidentally, in early 2013, Tuan returned to Thai Nguyen tea land. In this famous delicious tea region, Tuan came up with the idea of a clean, quality tea product for his hometown. Urged by the above project, Tuan did not hesitate to quit his stable job at a famous enterprise and decided to work outside. At that time, his parents and many people tried to dissuade him, but Tuan accepted the challenge because "I'm simply young. If I fail, there are still many opportunities to try again."
The early days of starting a business were not simple. Tuan once again went to Tan Cuong tea region (Thai Nguyen) and applied to work for free at Hao Dat tea factory. After nearly half a year of hard work, Tuan understood why, although it was all tea and the same production process, Thai Nguyen tea was more famous and had a higher price than Nghe An tea? “To have good tea, the tea roasting technique is very important. In addition, the raw materials. If the raw materials are poor, the tea will turn red. If the tea is not stored properly, the tea will be damp and the tea water will no longer be green”… Tuan shared.
When starting production, Tuan pays special attention to the raw materials. Simply, to achieve the standard of "one shrimp, two shrimps" tea (one bud, two leaves), Tuan requires the tea to be picked at the right time, picked and roasted on the same day. All the tea must be picked by hand to avoid the tea being crushed, crushed or mixed with substandard tea. During the tea roasting process, the fire cannot be too high, nor can it be rushed. Most of the steps are done by hand. After roasting, the tea must be carefully packaged, ensuring that it can be preserved for at least 2 years. In particular, Tuan builds a clean tea brand. 100% of the tea is guaranteed not to use pesticides because "if the tea has just a few impurities, the taste will change"... It took nearly 3 months of preparation and more than 200 kg of tea for failed experiments, until mid-2014 the first tea products were born. As for the name, Tuan did not need to hesitate and decided to name it Mac Dien. This is the old name of Hung Son land, and with this name Tuan hopes to build a high quality tea brand for his hometown. |
After nearly 2 years, the Mac Dien tea brand has become known to many people. The commune and district also strongly support Tuan's idea and often order it as gifts for local events. Tuan himself also determined that the first days would certainly be difficult, so he was not afraid of difficulties and hardships and went directly to market the product. At first, seeing the strange brand, many people were hesitant. But after a period of use, consumers began to trust it because Mac Dien tea is superior in quality and the price is much "softer" than the same type of tea produced in other provinces and cities. When asked if Tuan regrets deciding to leave his stable job to choose this "precarious" job, Tuan smiled: "I am not afraid of failure. Moreover, thanks to being "independent", I am wiser and stronger. My experience is only 2 years but it is equivalent to nearly 10 years of working for others."
From Tuan's idea, Hung Son commune authorities have also planned to develop the Mac Dien tea brand into a key local product. In the immediate future, they will help Tuan register the product trademark. Next, they will expand the production scale in the direction of a cooperative model. Tuan also shared that: Actually, developing the Mac Dien tea brand is not difficult. The most important thing is the output. Hung Son's advantage is its rich source of raw materials (more than 500 hectares of tea). People also have a lot of experience, so it is not difficult to create a rich source of quality raw materials.
These initial successes have also motivated Tuan to continue to develop his ideas and take bolder steps in the future. More importantly, Tuan has proven that: despite difficulties, if you put in effort and determination, you can still succeed.
