During this harvest season, farmers often transport rice to major roads near their homes to dry. According to our observations, on this occasion, on National Highway 46C along the Lam River from Nam Dan to Hung Nguyen, there are many households drying rice. Photo: Huy Thu |

Each family chooses a suitable section of road, organizes the cleaning and brings the rice to dry. At both ends of the road where rice is dried, as well as the part adjacent to the center of the road, people often use firewood, bricks, stones, etc. to set up warning barriers, the purpose of which is to prevent vehicles from going over the rice. Some families carelessly put tree stumps in the middle of the road, occupying the roadway, which looks very offensive. In this case, vehicles will share the remaining lane. Photo: Huy Thu |

It seems that people just put whatever object they see on the road to make it an obstacle and they don't think that it violates the Road Traffic Law or that it is a risk of causing traffic accidents for others. Photo: Huy Thu |

A family in Hung Tien commune (Nam Dan) carried a crate of beer bottles and placed them in the middle of the road, hoping that cars and other vehicles would not drive over the rice being dried. Photo: Huy Thu |

Some households in Hung Tien commune (Nam Dan) even carried tall beer bottles and placed them in the middle of the road as a warning sign. Photo: Huy Thu |

A household in Xuan Lam commune (Hung Nguyen) even brought an entire bamboo tree and placed it across National Highway 46C, one end resting on the road. Photo: Huy Thu |

In addition to turning the road into a drying yard, some households also brazenly extend electricity to National Highway 46C to winnow rice. Photo: Huy Thu |

On this occasion, not only National Highways, but also some provincial and district roads... were blocked by people occupying the roadway to dry, thresh, and winnow rice... In reality, drying rice and straw, blocking the roadway is not only a bad habit, a lack of awareness of people but also a violation of the law. It is thought that, along with propaganda and reminder work, in the coming time, functional agencies need to be more determined in punishing cases of intentional violations. This is also a measure to raise awareness of each person, so that the harvest season is no longer a haunting, fearful thing for traffic participants. Photo: Huy Thu |
