Former corrupt tax official surrenders after 19 years on the run
Wanted for embezzlement of Socialist property since 1997, the former tax official has just turned himself in after 19 years on the run.
The Criminal Police Department, Ha Nam Provincial Police, has just coordinated with the family to propagate and persuade the subject Vu Van Thuan (born in 1965), residing in Ninh Hiep, Gia Lam District, Hanoi, who is wanted for the crime of "Embezzlement of Socialist property" to surrender.

Previously, in 1997, Vu Van Thuan was a tax collector in Dong Hung town, Tan Hiep district, Kien Giang province. Due to needing money to build a house and for personal expenses, Thuan "embezzled" nearly 65 million VND of tax money collected from the State.
In 1998, knowing that he was unable to repay the above amount, Thuan and his family fled to Ninh Hiep, Gia Lam District, Hanoi to do business and live. Afterwards, Tan Hiep District Police, Kien Giang Province issued Wanted Decision No. 03 dated June 25, 1998 against Vu Van Thuan for the crime of "Embezzlement of Socialist Property".
Currently, the Criminal Police Department, Ha Nam Provincial Police is completing the file to hand over the subject to Tan Hiep District Police, Kien Giang Province for handling according to the provisions of law./.
