Nguyen Du was honored as a World Cultural Celebrity.
The UNESCO Executive Board has passed a resolution to submit to the UNESCO General Assembly to honor poet Nguyen Du as a World Cultural Celebrity.
This information has just been confirmed by Mr. Vo Hong Hai - Director of the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh. According to Mr. Hai, the UNESCO Executive Committee meeting in Paris (France) unanimously passed resolution No. 192 EX/32 to submit to the UNESCO General Assembly to vote to honor Nguyen Du as a world cultural celebrity.
The scientific dossier proposing to honor the great poet Nguyen Du is highly appreciated. It is expected that in November 2013, the UNESCO General Assembly will meet in
Nguyen Du monument in Tien Dien commune, Nghi Xuan district, Ha Tinh
Mr. Hai also said that the commemorative activities will be part of the roadmap for the 220th anniversary of Nguyen Du's birth (held in 2015) assigned by the Government to the People's Committee of Ha Tinh province in coordination with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to carry out. Currently, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Ha Tinh has completed the commemorative project and is preparing to collect comments from the Ministry before submitting it to the Government.
Accordingly, many activities will be organized to honor the great poet Nguyen Du such as: organizing seminars, cultural activities, connecting more tours to the Nguyen Du National Special Relic Site in Tien Dien commune (Nghi Xuan district), master planning of the relic site...
According to Mr. Hai, up to now, the world has tacitly recognized Nguyen Du as a World Cultural Celebrity. The activities of the World Peace Council still celebrate Nguyen Du's birthday as with other celebrities such as Dante Alighieri (Italy), Lomonoxop (Russia). Being recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Celebrity is a procedure for the great poet Nguyen Du to be officially recognized./.
