Nguyen Manh apologizes to fans, continues to be the main goalkeeper
Despite making a serious mistake that caused the Vietnamese team to lose the victory against Indonesia, goalkeeper Nguyen Manh continues to receive the trust of coach Miura.
In the 85th minute, when Vietnam was leading 2-1, Samsul Arif shot from a reaching position, the ball did not go very far. However, goalkeeper Nguyen Manh made a silly mistake and let the ball slip between his legs into the net, much to the surprise of his teammates and thousands of home fans at My Dinh Stadium. Sharing with the press, Samsul Arif admitted that he himself did not expect his shot to score, helping Indonesia tie 2-2 in the opening match of the AFF Cup 2014.
Nguyen Manh was in deep shock after the mistake that cost his team the victory. The goalkeeper from Nghe An burst into tears on the field and on the night of November 22, he skipped meals and lost sleep. Nguyen Manh's teammates took turns going to the encouragement room.
"I apologize to the fans, to Coach Miura and my teammates. Because of my mistake, the team could not win all three points. I always feel guilty even though no one blamed me," Nguyen Manh sadly shared.

In the second match of Group A of the 2014 AFF Cup, the Vietnamese team will have personnel changes in the attack. Cong Vinh is likely to enter the field from the beginning to replace Hai Anh. Previously, when placing Cong Vinh on the bench in the match against Indonesia, coach Miura promised that if he entered the field and scored, the striker from Nghe An would have a starting position.
Cong Vinh entered the field in the 55th minute and just 13 minutes later, he scored a beautiful volley against Indonesia from the edge of the penalty area. This goal helped the striker born in 1985 end a drought that had lasted more than two months.
"I am extremely happy with that goal. However, no one can live in the past forever. I will forget it and start training to prepare for the match with Laos. Whether I play as a starter or a substitute is up to Coach Miura, I have no opinion," Cong Vinh shared.
