Former Deputy Director of Nghe An Province Cultural Center sentenced to 20 years in prison for fraud

(Baonghean.vn) -After two days of trial, this afternoon, January 23, the Provincial People's Court sentenced defendant Bui Xuan Lam (born in 1978, residing in Hamlet 2, Thach Son Commune, Anh Son District, Nghe An) to 20 years in prison for fraud and property appropriation.

Previously, according to the nearly 70-page indictment of the People's Procuracy of Nghe An province, within 3 years (from 2010 to 2012), Lam had committed 195 frauds, using the guise of running jobs and running projects. With his fluent speaking ability and the title of Deputy Director of the Provincial Cultural Center as well as his way of spending money like trash, Lam made it easy for many people to fall into traps. Specifically, Lam promised to find jobs for 86 people, defrauded and appropriated the money from each person from a few dozen to nearly 100 million VND. In addition, Lam also received money from intermediaries (23 people) to find jobs for many other people... The total amount of money Bui Xuan Lam defrauded and appropriated from the victims was up to 9,937,000 million VND.

Realizing that Bui Xuan Lam's criminal acts caused particularly serious consequences, causing very bad harm and serious damage to property and spirit of many people; Committing the crime with sophisticated and cunning tricks, the Defendant confessed his guilt in a roundabout way, did not admit his crime..., therefore, the Panel of Judges sentenced Bui Xuan Lam to 20 years in prison and forced him to reimburse the entire amount of money he had defrauded and appropriated from the victims.
