(Baonghean) -On November 27, the Provincial People's Court held a public appeal trial of the "Receiving bribes" case against defendant Bui Anh Duc (born in 1975) - former Judge of Yen Thanh District People's Court.

According to the indictment, in April 2012, Bui Anh Duc was assigned by the Chief Justice of Yen Thanh District People's Court to preside over the criminal trial of Ngo Xuan Thao's "Asset Embezzlement" case. The trial was scheduled for April 24, 2012. Before the case was brought to trial, Bui Anh Duc contacted the defendant and his family and was asked to help reduce the sentence. Duc agreed but set a condition that the defendant's family must give Duc 60 million VND. The defendant's family could only borrow 15 million VND and gave the above amount to Bui Anh Duc on April 24. When the two left Duc's office, on their way down the stairs, Yen Thanh District Police raided and arrested Duc. At this time, Duc had put 2 envelopes containing 15 million VND in his personal cabinet (one envelope contained 5 million VND, the other envelope contained 10 million VND). Through an emergency search, the police also confiscated from Duc an envelope containing 4 million VND that the defendant's family gave to Duc on the morning of April 23.

On August 29, the Yen Thanh District People's Court held a public first-instance trial of the criminal case of bribery against defendant Bui Anh Duc, sentencing him to 5 years in prison. Believing that the sentence was too harsh, Bui Anh Duc filed an appeal to the Provincial People's Court for a lighter sentence.

At the appeal hearing, the panel of judges accepted Bui Anh Duc's appeal and sentenced him to 3 years and 6 months in prison.
