Nguyen Van Viet is the youngest goalkeeper of the Vietnamese team participating in the Asian Cup.
(Baonghean.vn) - The Asian Football Confederation (AFC) has posted the official list of 24 teams competing in Qatar, including 26 names from the Vietnamese team and goalkeeper Nguyen Van Viet of Song Lam Nghe An Club is the youngest player.
This morning, January 4, AFC announced the list of Vietnam's team participating in the 2023 Asian Cup. This list was sent by coach Philippe Troussier as required by the regulations of the 2023 Asian Cup.
Accordingly, in the goalkeeper position, the French strategist registered 3 names including Nguyen Filip (Hanoi Police), Nguyen Dinh Trieu (Hai Phong) and Nguyen Van Viet (SLNA).
Goalkeeper Van Viet is one of the youngest players of the Vietnamese team at the 2023 Asian Cup (born in 2002), he was called by coach Troussier to replace Dang Van Lam.
After central defender Que Ngoc Hai and striker Nguyen Tien Linh parted ways due to injury, central defender Do Duy Manh and midfielder duo Nguyen Hoang Duc and Nguyen Tuan Anh are recovering well so they are still on the list to go to Qatar.
In addition to Que Ngoc Hai and Tien Linh missing out on this Asian Cup, the Vietnamese team previously had to say goodbye to 6 other players for similar reasons, including Dang Van Lam, Duc Chien, Thanh Nhan, Thanh Chung, Hoang Van Toan and Bui Tien Dung.
On the attack line, coach Troussier put his trust in 5 names: Pham Tuan Hai, Nguyen Van Tung (Hanoi Club), Khuat Van Khang (The Cong - Viettel), Nguyen Van Toan (Nam Dinh) and Nguyen Dinh Bac (Quang Nam).
According to the plan, the team will fly to Qatar for training tomorrow (January 5). In addition to the 26 official players, coach Philippe Troussier will bring along 4 reserve players. Quang Hai and his teammates will have a friendly match with Kyrgyzstan on January 9 before entering the Asian Cup campaign.
The 2023 Asian Cup will take place from January 12 to February 12, 2024 in Qatar. Vietnam will be in Group D, facing Japan (January 14), Indonesia (January 19) and Iraq (January 24).
