Former Chief Prosecutor Sentenced to Prison for Causing an Accident
After two postponements, on May 5, the People's Court of Kon Tum province held the first-instance trial of the case of the former Chief Prosecutor of Tu Mo Rong District People's Procuracy driving and causing a series of accidents.
At the trial, the Trial Panel sentenced defendant Tran Quang Hung, former Chief Prosecutor of Tu Mo Rong District People's Procuracy, to 18 months in prison for "violating regulations on controlling road vehicles" as prescribed in Points b, c, d; Clause 2, Article 202 of the Penal Code; Points b, d, Clause 1, 2, Articles 46, 47 of the Penal Code.

According to the indictment of the People's Procuracy of Kon Tum province, at about 5:00 p.m. on December 4, 2015, defendant Tran Quang Hung consumed beer but still drove a car with license plate 82A-000.84 on National Highway 14 from Dak To district to Kon Tum city and caused 4 consecutive traffic accidents.
The first incident occurred in front of house number 173 in residential group 2, Dak Ha town. The car driven by Tran Quang Hung collided with a motorbike with license plate 82K6-0564 driven by Nguyen Xuan Tho, carrying Ms. Do Thi Diep behind.
After causing the accident, Mr. Hung did not stop the car but continued driving. When arriving in front of house number 123, residential group 1, Dak Ha town, the car driven by Mr. Hung collided with a motorbike with license plate 82K7-7377 driven by Ms. Nguyen Thi Men going in the same direction, with Nguyen Ngoc Minh Chau behind.
Not stopping there, Mr. Hung continued to drive the car towards Kon Tum city and continued to have 2 collisions with a motorbike with license plate 82K1-019.02 driven by Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Khanh running in the same direction, carrying Mr. Nguyen Van Tung behind and a motorbike with license plate 82K1-613.76 driven by Ms. Doan Thi Thuy carrying Ms. Phan Thi Thu Huong behind.
This series of accidents injured 6 people and caused damage of more than 76.8 million VND./.
