The British journalist proved his point by saying that Prime Minister Keir Starmer's economic policies are harming the UK.

According to TASS on December 27, journalist Poppy Coburn of The Daily Telegraph said that the UK should become the "51st state" of the US when Prime Minister Keir Starmer's economic policies are harming the country.

According to Ms. Coburn, while the UK is “floundering under the leadership” of Prime Minister Starmer, the US is “expecting a revival” with President-elect Donald Trump taking power.

“In short, we would be lucky to be promised a deal like Trump's half-joking, half-serious proposal to have Canada join the United States as the 51st state,” British journalist Coburn said.

The UK’s “physical and digital infrastructure” is largely American, Ms Coburn added. “The steady shift of the economy from provincial Britain to urban America has accelerated in recent years. The US now sees the UK as an offshore services haven, like India. They are taking advantage of the UK’s extremely low wage growth to attract top legal talent in finance and technology,” Ms Coburn said.

Time is not on Britain’s side, according to Coburn. As the eurozone collapses and US protectionism intensifies, Britain’s fragile status will be “crushed like an ant between two giant elephants.”

“Of course, the breakup of the United Kingdom in America would be a tragedy of universal historical proportions. But I don’t even want to think about the alternative, with its sickly politicians. So why don’t we join the ‘America First’ movement and side with the winners, at least then we’ll have better, faster food?” Ms Coburn said.

US President-elect Donald Trump said on December 10 that Canada and Mexico could become new US states.

“We subsidize Canada over $100 billion a year, we subsidize Mexico almost $300 billion. Why are we subsidizing these countries? If we’re going to subsidize them, let them become new states of the United States,” he said in an interview with NBC News.
