He entered the profession in March 1956, becoming a reporter for the People's Army newspaper. After leaving the army, he was elected as Permanent Vice President of the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association for 3 terms (1989-2003), Editor-in-Chief of Journalism magazine (1999-2004).

Hong Phuong is one of the seven senior members who were specially admitted to the Vietnam Association of Photographic Artists in 2004 due to his many contributions to the country's photography. In 2005, he presented the photo exhibition "Impressions - Emotions"; in 2009, he introduced the exhibition "Cambodia Moments". This year, to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Day, the Ho Chi Minh City Journalists Association and the Ho Chi Minh City Photography Association jointly organized the photo exhibition "A Glimpse on the Land of Laos".

Journalist Hong Phuong speaks at the exhibition.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Mr. Hong Phuong was moved: "For decades, I have always wanted to visit the land and people of Laos. In recent years, I have been to many countries around the world but have not had the opportunity to visit Laos, the land that bears the mark of time and youth as a journalist. In June 1970, I marched on foot from Quang Binh across the Western Truong Son Mountains to Khammouane. I traveled for a whole month on the land of Laos, but due to the fierce war, I never met a Laotian. One day, we suffered three B52 bombings by the American invaders. Many comrades have remained forever on the land of Laos. After 40 years, last June, I had the opportunity to make a pilgrimage to the Land of a Million Elephants, thanks to which this exhibition was created. The images displayed here try to show Laos as a peaceful, gentle country with poetic nature; the people are kind, hospitable, very cultured, and emotional... I only regret that I am not talented enough to record all of those special cultural beauties!".

2 works on display at the exhibition.

He took over 700 photos, trying to select 50 works of art for the exhibition. These are photos of current artistic value, depicting typical cultural features of the Land of a Million Elephants, such as the capital Vientiane, the ancient capital Luang Prabang, Xieng Khouang, the ancient battlefield with the Plain of Jars and the beautiful land of Van Vieng... The exhibition is like a bouquet of fresh flowers, congratulating the everlasting friendship between Vietnam and Laos...

When we parted, he promised to open the 4th exhibition of photos of his beloved hometown Nghe An, which raised him, as a token of gratitude. Although he is 75 years old, with his health and passion for art, I believe he will fulfill that promise.

Congratulations to journalist and artist Hong Phuong for his impressive career! Wishing him further success in his creative journey, contributing valuable works to the public!
