Vinh Power Plant was started on June 1, 1956 on the same land of the heroic SIFA Power Plant in the 9-year resistance war against French colonialism. This is the effort and dedication of thousands of cadres, workers, soldiers, machine installers and Soviet experts who worked day and night on the construction site. During the 10 years of fighting against the American war of destruction, Vinh Power Plant was one of the most fiercely attacked targets. The enemy attacked the plant in over 300 battles with 2,319 bombs of all kinds, 149 rockets, 64 cannons... The plant had to be restored 26 times. But "The enemy attacked us and we recovered, the enemy attacked us and we recovered, we held on steadfastly, vowing to die for the electricity to survive"; “The main chimney collapsed, we made a chimney out of corrugated iron, if the corrugated iron chimney collapsed, we made an underground chimney”... Those were the action slogans of the workers of Vinh Power Plant. It truly became the belief and pride of the electricians in Uncle Ho's homeland. Facing the bombs and bullets of the American invaders, the cadres and workers of Vinh Power Plant promoted the heroic tradition of electricians in the steadfast Soviet homeland of Nghe Tinh. The Vinh electricians, with their brave hearts, intelligence, and creativity, poured in a lot of sweat and effort, including the blood and bones of their comrades and teammates, to fight with the enemy, producing each kWh of electricity.
Aware of the value and historical significance of the factory, over the past time, Nghe An Electricity has always paid attention to protecting this relic site. In addition to keeping a part of the former factory site intact, Nghe An Electricity also preserved and restored a number of items on the old ground of the factory such as the chimney, the old Soviet furnace production control center, the cave system inside Dung Quyet mountain (D6 cave) and many artifacts kept in the traditional room. Every June 4, Nghe An Electricity holds an incense offering ceremony to commemorate the martyrs who heroically sacrificed for the never-ending electricity in the heroic Soviet homeland.
