Fukushima plant begins to be covered with protective dome
According to the Voice of Russia, on July 6, the work of pouring the ceiling for the concrete protective dome above the No. 1 nuclear reactor of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant, which was damaged in the super earthquake and tsunami on March 11, began.
The sarcophagus-like protective layer made of polyester material is due to be completed by the end of September on reactors No. 1, No. 3 and No. 4 of the Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant.
The domes will serve for two years, until all the damaged reactors are urgently sealed in cement vaults.
