Japanese King and Queen successfully conclude visit to Vietnam

The first State visit to Vietnam by the Japanese Emperor and Empress has historical significance in the relationship between the two countries.

On the afternoon of March 5, Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress successfully concluded their first State visit to Vietnam from February 28 to March 5, 2017 at the invitation of President Tran Dai Quang.

During the visit, the Japanese Emperor and Empress met with President Tran Dai Quang and attended a State Banquet hosted by President Tran Dai Quang and his wife; met with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc and his wife; met with National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan; and attended a tea party hosted by General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and his wife. On this occasion, the Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress laid a wreath and visited the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum.

During the meetings, the two sides agreed that the first State visit to Vietnam by Emperor Akihito and Empress has historical significance in the relationship between the two countries; they believed that the visit by the Japanese Emperor and Empress would contribute to strengthening trust, understanding and affection between the people of the two countries, thereby further developing the extensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and Japan in the coming time.

The two sides agreed that the Vietnam-Japan relationship is at its best stage of development in history. In 2018, Vietnam and Japan will celebrate the 45th anniversary of diplomatic relations. The two sides emphasized that the two countries have historical exchanges, many cultural similarities such as rice cultivation, silkworm breeding, weaving, and love of peace; believing that this is the foundation that needs to be preserved and promoted to further develop the Vietnam-Japan relationship.

On the morning of March 4, Japanese Emperor Akihito and Empress Michiko visited the Hue Imperial City for the first time and enjoyed Hue royal court music.

The Japanese Emperor and Empress shared the difficulties faced by the Vietnamese people due to the impacts of climate change such as drought, saltwater intrusion and environmental pollution. The two sides agreed that countries around the world need to pay attention to environmental protection to ensure the health and lives of the people; shared a common understanding of the importance of education for national development...

During the State visit to Vietnam, the Japanese Emperor and Empress received volunteers from the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA); met with officials from the Japanese Embassy in Vietnam; interacted with former Vietnamese students who studied in Japan; met with the Japanese community in Vietnam; met with families of Japanese veterans living in Vietnam; visited the Museum of Biology (University of Science - Vietnam National University, Hanoi); visited the Imperial Citadel and listened to Hue royal court music at Duyet Thi Duong; and visited Phan Boi Chau Memorial House./.
