Fatal mistake in the case of 2 tons of sausages containing carcinogens

Just because of the “space”, the reputation of a company that only produces jelly, candy and yogurt jelly like Vietfoods has been seriously affected recently. Not only customers, but also authorities cannot help but confuse the two brands Viet foods (with space) and Vietfoods (without space) in this unfortunate incident.

Recently, public opinion was extremely shocked by the news that a batch of more than 2 tons of sausages, equivalent to 38,000 sausages branded Viet foods by Hung Anh Food Trading Company Limited, was discovered by Market Management Team No. 14 (under the Hanoi Market Management Department) and tested, and was found to contain the banned substance Sodium Nitrate 251, which has the risk of causing cancer.

Through investigation, it is known that the unit that produces these horrifying foods is headquartered in Lo O Hamlet, An Tay Commune, Ben Cat District, Binh Duong Province. The business registration is at No. 140C, Lane 351, Linh Nam Street, Vinh Hung Ward (Hoang Mai, Hanoi).

It is noteworthy that on the packaging labels of these sausage samples containing banned substances, the brand name "Viet foods" (written separately) is very similar and easily confused with the brand "Vietfoods" (written together) - which is the brand name of Vietnam Food Joint Stock Company, headquartered in Sai Dong, Long Bien, Hanoi. This is a company specializing in the production of confectionery, jelly, yogurt jelly and has never produced sausages.

Mr. Ha Ngoc Son - Director of Vietfoods Company said: "I feel very sad because recently, public opinion has been confused between the names of these two brands. Our company does not produce or trade sausage products. The sausage products contaminated with banned substances bearing the Vietfoods brand are not products of our company."

According to Mr. Son, his company was established in 2003, was granted a business registration license and used the name Vietfoods since 2007. In the list of products produced by the company since its establishment, there are only confectionery, jelly and yogurt jelly. In particular, the unit has also received the certificate of High Quality Vietnamese Goods for 4 years.

Even the authorities... made mistakes

According to Mr. Ha Ngoc Son, on the morning of April 29, when some newspapers started publishing information about the seizure of a batch of sausages containing banned substances (most newspapers mistakenly wrote it as Vietfoods - PV), his phone received hundreds of calls asking about this incident. For many consecutive days after that, Mr. Son's phone was also in a state of "burning out".

In particular, there were calls from authorities such as the police, market management or inspectors. These units themselves were also... mistaken. According to the director of Vietfoods company, this mistake has been having a huge impact on his personal reputation as well as the company's.

The very small difference between the two brands has caused confusion among many people.

"I also hope that customers and consumers understand the cause of this unfortunate story. My company only produces confectionery, yogurt jelly and jelly that meet food hygiene and safety standards, but does not produce sausages. I am also willing to open the doors of the factory and production facilities so that the public and the press can easily verify Vietfoods' operating procedures," said Mr. Ha Ngoc Son.

In another related development regarding Hung Anh Food Trading Company Limited (Viet Foods), Chairman of Vinh Hung Ward People's Committee - Mr. Nguyen Quoc Dat said that Hung Anh Company has been operating in Vinh Hung Ward for more than 2 years now and has not committed any violations.

According to information from Market Management Team No. 14, more than 2 tons of sausages were discovered belonging to Hung Anh Food Trading Company Limited, whose director is Mr. Nguyen Viet Xuan. Through inspection, it was found that the above shipment showed signs of using food additives not suitable for the food specified in Circular 27/2012/TT-BYT dated November 30, 2012 of the Ministry of Health. All 4 samples of goods tested contained the banned substance Sodium Nitrate 251, which has the risk of causing cancer when transformed at high temperatures.
