Nguyen Van Thang is still in shock after the fateful afternoon of April 9. As a member of the group that took yearbook photos for class 12A6 of Le Hong Phong High School (Hung Nguyen), Thang said that he and other members of the group had repeatedly prevented the students from going swimming in the sea.
“At the request of the class, our group and friends went to Cua Lo to take graduation photos. While taking photos, a group ran to the rocky area of Lan Chau island to swim and somersault.
I was standing on the shore when I heard a cry for help, so I rushed out to save a friend. At that time, the waves were very strong and the sea was rough, so by the time I saved my friend, I was exhausted and could only helplessly watch the other two friends being swept away by the waves. I was stabbed by an oyster and bled profusely. Many of my classmates standing nearby saw it but did not dare to jump in.
