In 2005, the Vinh Medical University Blood Donation Club (formerly Nghe An Medical College) was established. After more than 6 years of establishment, the Club has organized more than 44 blood donation sessions with a total of nearly 1,400 blood units collected, contributing a small part to the reserve of the Provincial General Hospital... In addition to organizing propaganda activities, mobilizing humanitarian blood donation in the community, Club members are also the core of the "Living Blood Bank" ready to donate blood voluntarily to emergency patients at hospitals when needed. In addition, the school's 23-member volunteer youth team for humanitarian blood donation propaganda has also actively supported the Provincial Hematology and Blood Transfusion Center, the Hematology Department of Nghe An General Hospital in propaganda, mobilization and blood collection at universities and vocational high schools in the area and neighboring localities.
With the message “Every drop of blood given, a life remains”, from 2006 to now, the voluntary blood donation club of Vinh University of Technology and Education has organized 22 blood donation sessions with the participation of more than 2,000 students of the school. At Vinh University, a fixed blood donation point has been established at the school’s medical room for students to conveniently register to donate blood. In 2010 alone, the school organized 6 voluntary blood donation sessions, collecting 983 units of blood, attracting more than 2,000 students to participate.
As a province that regularly suffers from natural disasters, war, epidemics, in addition to the increasing number of traffic accidents, the need for blood for treatment is increasing. Blood shortages still occur frequently, especially during the summer, holidays and Tet. Therefore, the Red Cross Society has focused on promoting the "Donate blood to save lives" movement. With increasingly diverse and rich forms of blood donation, it has attracted a large number of volunteers to participate. Up to now, the province has established 3 voluntary blood donation clubs in universities and colleges; established a "Living Blood Bank" team at Vinh Medical University; 13 districts and towns have established voluntary blood donation steering committees and put them into effective operation; administrative agencies, armed forces units and youth union organizations have organized many voluntary blood donation campaigns...
Through the campaigns such as: "Blood Donation Day", "Red Blood Drops", "Giving Hope"... in the past 5 years, we have mobilized and collected over 28,000 units of blood, of which 20,000 units were donated, contributing significantly to the treatment of patients, especially poor patients.
Currently, the amount of blood collected in the whole province only meets 60% of the need for medical treatment. Blood shortages still occur frequently, especially during the summer, holidays and Tet. Therefore, in the coming time, the Red Cross at all levels needs to promote the "Donate blood to save lives" movement, expand the blood donation target and mobilize all agencies, units, organizations and unions to participate...
