Replicating the Intergenerational Self-Help Club model
(Baonghean.vn) - From March 11-12, in Tuong Duong district, the Provincial Women's Union, Tuong Duong District Women's Union cooperated with Help Age International in Vietnam to organize a meeting to discuss, evaluate and implement the project "Promoting a contact approach to improve the lives of disadvantaged groups in Tuong Duong district" from 2012-2015 and visit the model of 8 Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs in 2 communes of Nga My and Yen Hoa.
Attending the workshop and evaluating the model were Ms. Lang Thi Ha, Vice President of the Provincial Women's Union, representatives of the Fatherland Front, Farmers' Association, Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs of the province, the Women's Union Working Group that is implementing the model expansion: Cua Lo, Quynh Luu, Anh Son and representatives of the organization Help Age International (HAI).

The project aims to improve the quality of life and promote the role of disadvantaged groups through activities to increase income, help each other overcome difficulties, take care of health... to improve the material and spiritual life of club members and the community. In terms of operation, each club has a board of directors of 5 people, funded by the project board with 100 million VND to lend capital to members with monthly interest, the interest is used for the club fund. 8 Intergenerational Clubs in 2 communes attract 413 members to participate. Currently, 244/413/8 clubs have received loans totaling 800 million VND from the project's support capital.

On the 12th, the delegates divided into two groups to visit the Intergenerational Self-Help Clubs of the two communes. Here, the delegates had the opportunity to attend the activities of the clubs. The delegation visited families of the elderly in difficulty who received loans to increase their income and provide home care. According to the delegates' assessment, although the number and budget of the project for the models are still limited, the model has enhanced the role of the elderly and will be continued to be replicated by the Women's Union throughout the province.
