Replicating the model of collecting pesticide packaging in Anh Son
(Baonghean.vn) -The model of trash bins for collecting and processing pesticide packaging right at the field is currently being deployed and effectively replicated in Anh Son district.
Since Khai Son commune built a model of trash bins to collect and process pesticide packaging, after each time mixing pesticides or herbicides to spray on rice, Mr. Tran Van Kham in village 1 has the habit of collecting packaging or bottles and putting them in a bin placed right at the foot of the field. That brings great efficiency.
Mr. Kham shared: His family has 3 sao of rice fields, each year they produce 2 rice crops, there are many types of pesticides that he uses to spray on the rice from the time of planting until the rice begins to bloom. On average, each sao of rice field sprays at least 200 grams of pesticides each year. According to Mr. Kham, pesticide shells are very toxic, so collecting and treating this type of waste not only helps protect the environment but also protects the health of farmers like him.

Khai Son commune has more than 110 hectares of rice per crop, so the amount of pesticides used to prevent pests is very large. Many years ago, most households after using pesticides often had the habit of dumping garbage and bottles right at the source of irrigation water, canals, affecting the landscape and environment in the area.
Since 2017, the Commune Farmers’ Association has implemented a model of collecting field waste. Initially, the model was applied on a small scale on some main intra-field roads. Up to now, in each field, there are 3-5 models placed at the intersections of intra-field roads and at the beginning of ditches and canals in the fields to facilitate people to collect and process.
Ms. Thai Thi To - Vice President of the Farmers' Association of Khai Son Commune said: In order for the model to be effective, every week, the Farmers' Association of the commune assigns each branch 2 members to work with people in each village and hamlet to inspect and collect garbage to the collection points for disposal. In addition, the association also promotes propaganda and mobilization to the community and each household in the area to raise awareness of each person to keep their living place clean as well as preserve the landscape around the living environment, thereby creating awareness about environmental protection.

Not only in Khai Son commune, the model of trash bins for collecting and treating pesticide packaging is currently widely deployed in Khai Son, Hoa Son, Linh Son, Tao Son, Phuc Son, Tuong Son, Hung Son and Cam Son communes with 675 bins; along with that, the whole district has more than 7,000 households building trash pits at home.
According to Mr. Nguyen Dang Khoa - Vice Chairman of the Farmers' Association of Anh Son district: From the model that has been successfully implemented in localities, in the coming time, the Farmers' Association of the district will continue to direct the association's branches to implement the placement of trash bins in all fields, in order to contribute to limiting the potential risks of environmental pollution and ensuring safety for people when producing in the fields.
This is an important foundation to help farmers move towards green, clean and sustainable agricultural production.
