A shipment of a used car, along with many electronic goods, cosmetics... was recently discovered at Hai Phong port. Customs authorities believe that the importer declared 19 tons of plastic beads with a 0% tax rate to evade taxes.

According to the General Department of Customs, in December, the Hai Phong Port Customs Branch, Region 3 (Customs Branch, Region 3) detained an enterprise's imported shipment due to suspicion of falsely declaring many valuable items such as cars and electronic equipment as plastic beads. The importer of this shipment is a limited liability company in Dan Phuong district, Hanoi.

Customs said the business declared the goods as 19 tons of Polyamid 6 virgin plastic granules, grade KN133g30 natural, originating from Korea. This is an item with a 0% import tax rate and has signs of low risk, so the system also approved a used Kia Morning car.

In March 2012, the Hai Phong Customs Control Team also seized four smuggled luxury cars, including a BMW X6, a BMW 750 Li, a Mercedes S550, and a Volkswagen Touareg. This batch of luxury cars was imported from the US to Hai Phong port on February 26 with customs declarations of imported rolled aluminum.

After that, a business (in Cau Giay district, Hanoi) that was the recipient of the goods refused to accept these cars. In early April, a smuggling ring of luxury cars from the US to Hong Kong, Vietnam was broken up, raising suspicions that these 4 cars were stolen. By June 2012, a representative of Hai Phong port customs confirmed that these 4 cars had been confiscated and turned over to the state budget.
