Japan also affirmed that it will never surrender to terrorism and continue to cooperate with the international community in the fight against extremism.

Japanese Chief Cabinet Secretary Yoshihide Suga said on February 1 that the man executed by the Islamic State (IS) militant group in a videotape released early on February 1 is likely Japanese hostage Kenji Goto.

Mr. Suga also warned of threats to the safety of Japanese citizens abroad. According to Mr. Suga, there have been no direct talks between Japan and IS since the hostage crisis. However, the Japanese government will never surrender to terrorism and will continue to cooperate with the international community in the fight against extremism.

In the latest IS video posted on the internet, a member of the armed group said the action was in retaliation for Japan's decision to join the fight against the extremist group, and warned that it would continue to carry out other attacks targeting Japanese people around the world./.
