Japan takes April 4 as "Pho Day"
Japan has announced April 4th every year as “Pho Day” in Japan to honor the famous traditional Vietnamese pho dish to the people of the Land of the Rising Sun.

On April 2 (local time), at the EXPO City Osaka Center (Japan), the announcement and certification ceremony took place on April 4 every year as "Pho Dayin Japan.
Attending the ceremony were Mr. Tran Duc Binh, Consul General of Vietnam in Osaka (Japan), Mr. Muraoka Hiroshi, Chairman of Acecook Company; Mr. Kase Kiyoshi, Chairman of the Japan Anniversary Association; famous Japanese actress Ayaka Miyoshi and many Japanese people.
Speaking at the opening ceremony, Mr. Tran Duc Binh highly appreciated the recognition of April 4 as “Pho Day” in Japan, to honor the famous traditional pho dish of Vietnam. The Consul General also expressed his belief that “Pho Day” will help introduce traditional pho of Vietnam to every Japanese person and contribute to the development of Japan’s very sophisticated culinary culture. The Consul General also shared his hope that this event will introduce Japanese people to understand more about Vietnamese culinary culture with famous delicious dishes, thereby helping Japanese people understand more about Vietnamese culture and bring Vietnam closer to each Japanese person.

After the certificate awarding ceremony, Mr. Muraoka Hiroshi, President of Acecook Company, said that Acecook has started to introduce instant pho into the convenience store system in Japan. All pho noodles of instant pho products are made from Vietnamese rice to faithfully reproduce the flavor of this delicate dish. The soup for instant pho products is researched, tested and produced according to the flavor of famous delicious pho restaurants across Vietnam to create delicious pho products that suit the taste of Japanese people.
This is the first time that the traditional Vietnamese dish Pho, famous all over the world, has its own anniversary. April 4 was chosen because the number 4 in English sounds like “Pho” so it is easy for people to remember.
The ceremony took place on the weekend when the cherry blossoms were in full bloom, attracting the special attention of tens of thousands of people from Osaka and neighboring cities. Vietnamese students studying abroad and the Vietnamese community living in the Kansai region also attended to support the event.
