Japan: Ruling coalition wins overwhelming victory
On December 14, the 47th election for the House of Representatives in Japan ended at 8:00 p.m. local time (6:00 p.m. Vietnam time). NHK Television announced the results of the poll after the election of the House of Representatives of Japan, showing that the ruling coalition won an overwhelming victory with 2/3 of the seats in the House of Representatives.

According to the poll, the ruling coalition will win about 317 seats out of the 475 seats in the Japanese House of Representatives. Of these, the Liberal Democratic Party alone will have between 275 and 306 seats. Its partner in the ruling coalition, Komeito, is expected to win 31 to 36 seats. Meanwhile, the largest opposition party in Japan, the Democratic Party, is expected to have 61 to 87 seats.
The election comes after Prime Minister Abe dissolved the House of Representatives in early November to pave the way for a snap general election. This election is like a way for the ruling coalition and Prime Minister Abe to gauge voters' evaluation of the first two years of Mr. Abe's term as Prime Minister and his economic policies Abenomics. Holding a two-thirds majority in the House of Representatives is one of the prerequisites for Mr. Abe's government to amend the Constitution.
