According to a VNA reporter in Incheon, South Korea, Japanese swimmer Naoya Tomita has tarnished the country's image by participating in the 17th ASIAD held in South Korea.

This male athlete was expelled from the tournament on September 26 for stealing a reporter's camera.

South Korean police have questioned Tomita, 25. Although he publicly apologized to the reporter whose camera he stole, the Japanese Olympic Committee (JOC) still decided to disqualify Tomita because it considered his actions a “serious violation” of the code of conduct.

Tomita finished fourth in the men's 100m breaststroke final at the 17th Asian Games. Four years ago, he won gold in the 200m breaststroke at both the Asian Games and the Championships.

This is not the first embarrassing incident in Incheon. Shortly after the Games began, an Iranian official and a Palestinian player were questioned by police over allegations of sexual abuse.
