The site chosen for the giant accelerator is either Mount Sefuri on the southern island of Kyushu, or the vicinity of Kitakami city in the north of the main island of Honshu.
According to the preliminary design, the new accelerator will have a linear structure. Unlike Europe's Large Hadron Collider (LHC) which is a closed circular tunnel loopback.
However, the length of the future Japanese accelerator will be 30km, which is 3.5km longer than the LHC.
The new accelerator will become the world's largest scientific experiment, enabling scientists to conduct experiments to search for previously unknown elementary particle components./.
