Revolutionary enthusiasm in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement of comrade Nguyen Thi Nam
In the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement 1930 - 1931, comrade Nguyen Thi Nam was a shining example of revolutionary enthusiasm, creativity, capacity and methods of propaganda, agitation and mobilization of the masses.
Throughout the history of our nation, Nam Thanh commune, Nam Dan district has been a land rich in patriotic and revolutionary traditions. Through many generations, Nam Thanh children have always fought steadfastly against hostile forces, determined to protect their villages, protect the independence and freedom of the Fatherland, and are ready to sacrifice their entire youth for the communist ideal.
Among those typical revolutionary soldiers, the image and name of comrade Nguyen Thi Nam - a female communist soldier from her hometown of Nam Thanh in the Nghe Tinh Soviet movement in 1930 - 1931 shines.
Comrade Nguyen Thi Nam (alias Thuy) was born in 1909 into a poor peasant family in Thanh Thuy commune (now Nam Thanh commune, Nam Dan district, Nghe An province). Her childhood was spent in a state of brutal oppression and exploitation due to the colonial exploitation policies of the French colonialists and the harsh regulations of the feudal government.

In 1927, the base of the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League was established in the provinces of Central Vietnam. The Association's sub-group in Kim Lien, Nam Dan district was one of the earliest sub-groups established by the Provincial Association in Nghe An. From here, the Association's base was widely developed in communes in the district such as Thanh Thuy (Nam Thanh), Thanh Dam (Nam Tan)... The grassroots organizations disseminated the document "The Revolutionary Path" by Nguyen Ai Quoc and Marxism-Leninism, mobilizing the masses to make revolution. Comrade Nguyen Thi Nam actively participated in local movements such as: propaganda, rallies, demonstrations, leaflet distribution...
On February 3, 1930, the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam opened a major turning point for the Vietnamese revolutionary movement. On May 16, 1930, the Thanh Thuy Commune Party Cell was established, named Bang Tra Party Cell, with comrade Bui Danh Toan as Secretary. After its establishment, Bang Tra Party Cell paid special attention to propaganda and education of the masses through forms such as: mass meetings according to organizations, organizing rallies in the whole commune, disseminating the Party's policies, distributing leaflets, hanging hammer and sickle flags in public places... The revolutionary movement in Thanh Thuy increasingly spread and rose. Organizations such as the Farmers' Association, the Red Self-Defense Force, the Red Relief Association, the Women's Liberation Association... were soon established.
On May 1, 1930, implementing the Central Party's policy of launching a movement to celebrate International Labor Day, workers at Truong Thi - Ben Thuy Factory organized a demonstration, demanding a salary increase and a reduction in working hours for workers.
In Thanh Thuy commune, under the direction of Bang Tra Party Cell, people distributed leaflets, hung red hammer and sickle flags in Con; hung signs and organized rallies at Hom market to listen to comrade Nguyen Thi Nam - district cadre give a speech. In front of hundreds of people, comrade Nam stepped onto a high mound of earth, wearing an old brown outfit, bareheaded and barefoot. With an emotional, strong, and powerful voice, she read the call for people to rise up and fight against oppression and exploitation by the colonial and feudal government.
His call gave the people strength to move forward. Hundreds of women and mothers stood in the middle of Hom market with their arms raised high in oath, slogans resounded loudly as people walked through the streets.
Faced with the new and strong forms of struggle of the people, the French colonialists were confused, they were forced to loosen their governing policies and resolve some of the people's policies. The Resident of Central Vietnam ordered soldiers and officials not to use weapons to suppress the protesting masses. They abolished the tax on visitors, abolished the patrol fee, banned beating workers, increased wages for workers, expelled the wicked, released those arrested in the protests...
In August 1930, the wave of struggle of the masses entered a fierce period. The Vinh General Confederation of Labor issued an “Urgent Notice” calling on all classes of people to respond to and support the general strike movement. Upon receiving this call, the Bang Tra Party Cell grasped and organized a mass gathering at the Chieng Co intersection to hold a rally and demonstrate, making demands, demanding that the French colonialists and feudalists must: “Abolish all kinds of taxes, release all those arrested in the struggle, not suppress and kill protesters, compensate the families of the victims, freedom to strike, demonstrate, and assemble…” and listen to comrade Nguyen Thi Nam give a speech on communism and the path and methods of fighting for democratic rights.
Opening with the following folk song, comrade Nguyen Thi Nam called on the masses to stand up and fight together:
This commune and that commune are linked together.
Let's shout and scream!
In the wind the red flag flutters
The white paper world is spread out.
In the middle of the city, a battle broke out.
The other side has iron bullets, our side has gold livers.
As soon as they finished speaking, the protesters shouted slogans: “Down with the evil tyrants”, “Down with the feudal imperialists”, “Workers and peasants rise up”, “Long live the Communist Party”… Hundreds of people with banners and slogans, holding sticks, spears, and red hammer and sickle flags fluttering in the wind. The stream of people flowed like a waterfall straight to Sa Nam market (now in Nam Dan town). Before the momentum of the masses, district chief Le Khac Tuong had to sign a paper and stamp the hammer and sickle flag with the slogan: Nam Dan district chief from now on cannot harass the people.
In early September 1930, recognizing the outstanding ability of comrade Nguyen Thi Nam, an active member of the movement, comrade Vuong Thuc Co - Secretary of Nam Dan District Party Committee organized to admit her to the Party and let her participate in activities at Bang Tra Party Cell in Thanh Thuy Commune. She was assigned to be in charge of propaganda work, printing leaflets and documents along with comrades Bui Danh Toan, Nguyen Huu Thai, Bui Danh Senh... Being in the Party's ranks, she always promoted her assigned role and responsibilities well.
On the evening of September 12, 1930, implementing the Directive of the Regional Party Committee, the people of Thanh Thuy, together with the people of the communes in the entire Nam Dan district, solemnly held a memorial service for the comrades who died in the demonstration in Hung Nguyen and mourned for 3 days. In order to encourage the fighting spirit of the masses, the Bang Tra Party Cell continued to organize a rally at the homes of comrades Nguyen Ba Luu, Nguyen Ba Su, and Nguyen Huu Ky to listen to comrade Nguyen Thi Nam talk about the plots and tricks of the French colonialists and the significance of this revolution. Thanks to that, the spirit and will to fight of the masses were increasingly nurtured, and the struggle movement in Thanh Thuy developed extremely strongly.
Faced with the revolutionary masses' fighting spirit, the enemy soldiers wavered, the village chief was confused, and returned the seal to the district chief. Taking advantage of the victory, the Thanh Thuy people's struggle movement rose up like a storm. Every night, demonstrations, rallies, and speeches took place at three-way intersections, village communal houses, and markets, attracting hundreds of participants. Drums and gongs continuously resounded throughout the villages...
After the above struggles, the revolutionary situation in the locality began to enter a difficult and complicated period. In October 1930, the French colonialists mobilized a number of soldiers in blue uniforms to station at Vien Quang pagoda and Duc Nam communal house. Thanh Thuy commune, which was considered a typical revolutionary movement in Nam Dan district, was directly assigned to Anne to command the suppression. They organized a search and arrest of party cadres and members, intimidating the people's spirit. Whenever they encountered someone, they would beat and imprison them, with the motto of better arresting by mistake than letting them go.
Grasping the enemy's plot and actions, comrades in the Bang Tra Party Cell, including Bui Danh Toan, Nguyen Huu Ngon, Nguyen Thi Nam... carried out the policy: "When the enemy comes, we go; when the enemy goes, we return", "Empty gardens, empty houses"... The Party Cell withdrew into secret operations; mobilized people to evacuate to the mountains during the day and return at night to plow and work; arranged for the elderly to stay in the village to look after the houses and hide the cadres...
On February 20, 1931, in the face of the enemy's terror and repression, the District Party Committee decided to transfer comrade Bui Danh Bich - District Party Committee member, Secretary of the Xuan Lieu General Inter-branch, in charge of communications work to Thanh Thuy commune to discuss with the Bang Tra Party Cell the consolidation of the Party Cell and the development of the local revolutionary movement. To deceive the enemy, comrades Nguyen Thi Nam, Bui Danh Tru, Ngo Cong Chuu, Dinh Huu Lieu, Dinh Huu Bon, Dinh Van Con... pretended to be brick buyers. At about 4:00 p.m. the same day, everyone gathered at the Lo Chua brick kiln to hold a conference. Under the direct leadership of comrade Bui Danh Bich, the conference decided to change the Bang Tra Party Cell to the Cao Man Party Cell with comrade Ngo Cong Chuu as Secretary. The Party Cell has been making great efforts to propagate, agitate, consolidate revolutionary forces, lead the masses to fight the enemy and restore the government. Therefore, the fighting spirit of the Thanh Thuy people has been constantly improving.
From mid-1931, our people's revolutionary movement encountered numerous difficulties due to the white terror policy of the French colonialists. They brutally suppressed and hunted down, key officials of the district and commune were arrested and murdered one after another (in Thanh Thuy commune, 30 people were arrested: including comrade Bui Danh Bich - District Party Committee member, Secretary of the Xuan Lieu General Inter-branch; comrade Ngo Cong Chuu - Secretary of the Cao Man Party Cell; comrade Nguyen Dinh Tran - Member of the Executive Committee of the Farmers' Association...) and a series of Party and mass organizations were destroyed.
On the afternoon of October 16, 1931, while propagandizing in the hamlet associations, Comrade Nguyen Thi Nam encountered the enemy. That day, she wore old brown clothes, one leg low, one leg high, barefoot, carrying a hoe, pretending to be a farmer visiting the fields, and was following the dike when she reached Gia Lao hamlet when she encountered the secret police on patrol. While trying to escape, she was suddenly intercepted by the traitor Nguyen Khac Luong, who ordered the soldiers to shoot and injure her and imprisoned her at Xuan La station.
In the imperial prison, comrade Nguyen Thi Nam was tortured by the enemy to force her to confess, but she remained loyal to the Party and the revolution, did not say a word and always believed in the Party's leadership. After a period of detention but could not get any information, had no evidence of a crime, they had to release her.
Maintaining the spirit of patriotism and revolution, upon returning, he continued to enthusiastically participate in local movements.
The life and revolutionary career of comrade Nguyen Thi Nam is a shining example of revolutionary enthusiasm, creativity, capacity and methods of propaganda, agitation and mobilization of the masses./.
