Many good ways to reduce environmental pollution in Dien Chau

(Baonghean) -Faced with the reality of rural environmental pollution affecting people's lives, Dien Chau district (Nghe An) has proposed many good ways to make residential areas green and clean.

The district directed and guided 39 communes and towns to plan centralized waste dumps, established an environmental sanitation steering committee in each commune with the vice chairman of the commune as the head, the head of the health station as the deputy head, and a waste collection team of 3 to 5 people in each hamlet. In addition to supporting 3 million VND to build a landfill, the district directed the policy bank to disburse funds to support communes to build clean water stations, and lend capital to poor households in coastal areas to build rainwater tanks and hygienic latrines.

Up to now, the whole district has 33 communes planning centralized landfills, each landfill is from 1,000 - 1,500 m2 wide.2; 25 communes have established cooperatives or groups to collect solid waste and collect environmental fees. Dien Chau town has established an environmental sanitation enterprise, funded by a Danish national project with 2 specialized cars and various types of garbage collection tools. Staff are provided with protective clothing and paid more than 1 million VND/person per month. In addition to collecting garbage for 100% of households in 6 residential areas, the town's environmental sanitation enterprise also collects garbage for all agencies and units located in the area.

Although it is a poor commune, last year Dien Van commune supported 160 million VND for policy families to build hygienic latrines. Over the past 4 years, the policy bank has disbursed funds to help 3 communes of Dien Dong, Dien Thai, Dien Nguyen build clean water stations and supported more than 2,000 poor households in coastal areas to build rainwater tanks with an amount of 15 billion VND. The 3 communes of Dien Thap, Dien Thanh, Dien Hong allocated hundreds of millions of VND from the budget to build centralized waste dumps, purchase adequate tools and means of transport, establish 2 to 3 garbage collection teams in each hamlet, and people voluntarily contribute 6,000 VND/month per household to pay for environmental protection staff.

The Youth Union and Women's Union in 39 communes and towns coordinate with 130 educational institutions in the district to organize monthly general cleaning of village roads and alleys, and collect waste in public places. Implementing the Prime Minister's new rural program, 100% of rural Party cells have included the construction of beautiful alleys and roads, planting trees on both sides of the road, having drainage canals, hot and cold showers, and clean water tanks in the emulation criteria, and evaluating the titles every 6 months and the whole year.

Up to now, 98% of households in Dien Chau district have access to clean water, and 78% of households have built hygienic latrines. Dien Chau town and 4 communes of Dien Hong, Dien Thap, Dien Ky, Dien Thanh have from 85 to 95% of households having hot and cold bathrooms and septic tanks. 100% of constructions, commercial centers, and small industrial parks built in the past 5 years have wastewater treatment and fire prevention systems. The district has also built more than 3,600 biogas tanks, of which Dien Nguyen commune has built more than 700 tanks for livestock farming.
